And...it may not be happening
As you know, I've been tossing around the idea of WLS for 6 months now. I went to the info session and to the first appt with the surgeon and then chickened out. But on Saturday I had a very down day. Listening to my mom and sister, *****cently joined a sorority, share notes was too much. It started me off thinking about all that I've lost from being overweight. And, okay, I probably romanticize the thin life, and yeah some of those things realistically wouldn't have come to pass, but I hate having this doubt. I always think things would have been different if I were thin. I excused myself and went and cried my eyes out. On the one hand I feel so blessed, but on the other I feel like I live with this huge, painful thing. Maybe I could lose weight and could do it by myself but the statistics are so against me. Do I really want to spend 22-31 the same way I've spent 13-22? So then I started to mourn this future that I'm afraid I won't have either. And the conclusion that I came to was that I need to have WLS. Period. Even if I have to swear off some foods and eat very little and possibly miss food.
I was going to have to be a self-pay and now my parents are thinking they don't want to make such a big investment, especially since I am probably going to graduate school with their help. And now I'm very sad. I don't know what insurance companies cover WLS if I were to get a job, but my mom tells me there are very few. I don't want to make future decisions to not do grad school or to choose a particular job based on insurance that might cover WLS for me. And even if I did get that job with the insurance, who know if they'd cover me, and how far down the line. I just don't know what my next move should be. I feel like WLS would be a great investment for my parents to make in me and they may yet. I know that potential jobs and relationships will suffer if I'm remain this overweight. And, I really don't want to lose any more of my youth waiting--with grad school and then finding a job/getting approved, I think we're talking about 4 more years if I take that route.
I guess I'm mostly torn about what to do in the mean time. And I'm very sad. I guess this is no longer in my hands.

That is awesome to hear! I think I might be able to get a job there, and I could certainly work part time. Also, I don't know where I'm going to be next year, but there is a Starbucks almost everywhere--especially in college towns!
Anyone know how long insurance processes normally take? Not that it really matters. It is what it is. Also, I don't really have any compounding problems like diabetes or sleep apnea. I do have asthma and allergies, but I've always had that.
P.S. Almondsoy I'm in Okc

hey girl,
i work in okc at penn sq ! we are actually on a hiring freeze right now but you could always go online and put your application up there, so when we start hiring again you could be on the list of applicants :) www.starbucks.com/careers and yes after 6 months of working at a store your eligible for transfer anywhere else, as long as your on good terms :)
the insurance process depends on the dr. i got really lucky and my whole process took only less then 3 months, but that was in new jersey.
i go to dr.walton now for my followups cause he was nice enough to take me in :) thats what practice you started going to right? im not sure of their procedures, but i love their office :)
if you have facebook you can add me, im am imperato ..
lemme know if you need anything!

I know you'll find the answers and solution you're looking for, girl. AM brought up a great suggestion with the PT job at Starbucks and their WLS coverage in their insurance. I know a couple of friends of mine in Texas did the same thing with their Starbucks insurance coverage at just a minimal out-of-pocket cost. I know the surgery is in the cards for you and your future. I'll keep many positive thoughts for you!

alot of job pay for wls as long as you fit the requirements of been over a certain weight or BMI, its well worth it! look into getting a job even if you have to pay 1000 dollars of it up front that is A MILLION TIMES less than what surgery is, you wont regret it, do your research and dont look back... and stop wondering what if!
