I haven't have surgery yet, and am terrified about excess skin. BUT I'm also kind of addicted to tanning. I think its a self esteem thing being overweight. Should I give it up, will it have a negative effect on my skin post-op or is it really nothing to worry about? I'm trying to decide before i renew my package lol PS you guys are amazing! thanks for the encouraging words and constant support!!

I have never tanned either artificially or by way of the sun because I'm a ginger kid ;-)  However, I don't think it's a big deal to do it afterwards but I have heard something to the affect of the scars wont tan or something.  Someone else who might have more experience could probably elaborate.

I tan quite frequently. I'm only 4 months out, but it doesn't bother me. My skin seems the same. My friends that have had weight loss surgery also tan. I think it's okay. Good luck on your surgery!

my scars/stretch marks always tanned when i used to. it depends on the person. for some they won't, for me some would actually get darker than the rest of me. (i worked at a tanning salon for 2 years so i've heard everyone's problems lol)

Tanning wont be a problem post op....however you are supposed to wait at least 6 months before exposing new scars (surgery scars) to UV light/ or the sun as it can make them darker and they wont heal to be as light in color as they would have had they not been exposed. good luck, hope that helps

The only isue I am having after tanning is feeling dehydrated, and my skin being really dry. I try to drink alot before going. I guess I just want to make sure I have good color in my skin so I keep going tanning. Good luck to you!
