FEAKING out and surgery date moved to THIS friday!
Okay! My surgeon's office called last night, and again this morning, and apparently there is something in my pre-op test that the don't want to wait another week, so they are moving my surgery date from FEB 4th, to JAN 29th! THATS ONLY 3 DAYS FROM NOW!!! I am totally un prepared. I haven't bought ANYTHING yet, that I need, and I already made arrangement for someone the week of the 4th to care for my daughter... UGH... CHANGE is killing me... I told her that I really didn't want to move my date for work / daycare issues, but truefully I am NOT ready! :-( I keep wanting to back out, but I KNOW DEEP DOWN I NEED THIS, just scared outta my mind. I know that I can go to the store and get what I need this week, and my job said that its no big deal to them, its just a few working days!!! Please pray for me, I am really physicking myself out over this one...
My sister is coming to stay the weekend and entertain my daughter who is 2, and then my dad will be here when I get to leave the hospital, but WOW, its all becoming so real, and RIGHT arond the freaking corner.
I know that its been posted several times, but what do I NEED for the hospital, and what will I need at home for the 1st week or so?
(I am nervious about the whole driving thing!!! haha, I drove myself to and from the hospital after I had a c-section with my daughter, and I HATE letting other people drive. Kinda silly I know, but did anybody else drive with in a week of being home?)
PHEW, now all that is off my chest!!! Any advise, or words from the WISE, would be greatly appricated!!!
Thanks in advance.

First off congrats on getting your date moved up! I know that it is super scary and that you are nervous but honestly they wouldnt have moved it up had there not been a reason. You will be FINE!!! So don't stress. As for what to take to the hospital, mine was an in and out procedure but from what I have heard of those that had to stay a day or so I would take loose sweat pants so they arent tight on your tummy and loose shirts. Also slip on shoes or slippers are nice so you dont have bend down to tie your shoes with a sore tummy. As for what you will need when you get home: I lived off sf jello, sf pudding, sf popsicles, broth and my protein shakes for like the first 2 weeks. There isn't a whole lot that you can eat before hand and I'm sure if you have questions on what you will need when you get home you could call your nutritionist and he/she could give you some ideas. My Dr. said I was not allowed to driver PERIOD while I was taking pain meds so my mom and dad drove me too and from surgery and then drove me around while I was taking the meds, so I would have someone that can drive you to and from surgery. I know you have head this before but sip, sip, sip, chew, chew, chew, sleep repeat! those are my words of advice for post op. Plus I had to sleep sitting up for the first week and a half so have lots of pillows on your bed to prop you up. GOOD LUCK and keep us posted when you feel up to it!
To be honest, its beyond normal to freak out . . . but you'll be FINE!
Secondly, I was told bring a robe and slippers with rubber soles and of course a hairbrush and toothpaste/toothbrush. I left in the same outfit I showed up in, but you may want to bring clothes to change into also.
Grats on having your surgery so close and good luck with it~!!~!!
Remember to try walking as soon as you can and sip tha****er

i am about 5 weeks out from RNY, and wow has it been a roller coaster... dont freak out.. hard to say but try to enjoy the experience, cuz you are never going back to that :)... i dont know what kind of surgery you are having but if you are having gastric bypass I was veryyyy surprised by the lack of abdominal muscles, i came home thinking i could do anything myself and little things like cleaning the cat litter or doing laundry were very hard at first, dont drive yourself, im also very stubborn and thought its no biggie i just live a couple miles away i will drive, pain meds/ pain/ exhaustion... DONT DO IT... you can hurt someone else of even yourself and you are a fresh post-op from having major surgery!!!! also remember that your tastes change so dont stock up on tons of some type of shake you like pre-op becuase you may not like it after...
as for things you need at the hospital, what ever your dr tells you to bring, bring any paper work etc you have collected through the process... i packed a suit case to take with me with changes of clothes etc, dont botherrrr... i didnt touch it until the second day and all i did was put on my pj's i brought and didnt change for two days... and i didnt care... i was sleeping so much from the pain meds.... sorry if you are having just a band then things might be different... but that was my experience, and from my support group last night we actually were talking about c-sec vs bypass and all accept one said they would go through bypass surgery again than to have another c-sec.. so i guess thats good...
best of all HAVE FUN< TAKE PRE-OP PICS AND USE YOUR HEAD< DONT BE STUBBORN you dont want to screw anything up :)
CONGRATS!!!!

I thiink everyone has already covered your needs while in the hospital but when you get home have lots of clear liquids and your protein and vitamins waiting. Don't buy into alot of 1 flavor of anything because after surgery your taste buds can change.
As for the driving, (coming from a nursing student) they will not discharge you and allow you to drive home. Yes 1 reason because your under a major drug and it's really not worth losing your license over trust me, and the 2nd reason heavenforbids if anything did happen and you was in a wreak within the first 2-3 weeks and the stearing wheel hits you in the stomach you can rupture your pouch and this can be fatel. So please listen to your surgeon he isn't trying to be hard on you. Let your sister or dad drive you around..trust me you might want to enjoy yourself and not drive for a while anyways. Take whatever help is offered to you the first 2 weeks because it's going to seem like a long 2 weeks. But in the end you will do awesome..
Good luck and congrats!!!!

Thanks everybody! I feel SO much better after reading all your posts, and talking to my doctor. We had a good 45 minute talk yesterday afternoon, and they both went over everything with me!!! My origional surgon was in a car accident and broke her wrist, so now her husband is going to be my main surgon! I am completely okay with that, they are a husband and wife team!!! He actually has more experience, so I might be in better hands! :-) But I always meet with her, but I got to meet with him yesterday for the 3rd time! They are both so great and re assuring. I KNOW I will be in good hands!!! :-)
I also met a lady in the loby of my dr's office who is only about 4 months out from RNY, and she has been WONDERFUL... We actually keep running into each other. She is having her gallblatter out today. I ran into her last week at the hospital for her pre-op for her glablatter, and I was doing my pre-op for my RNY, then we MET again yesterday at our dr's office. THEN a 3rd time last night at wal-mart! :-) We kinda clicked, and she made me feel so much better! :-)
Thanks everybody! This forum is SO great!!! I don't think I would of made it this far with out you all!!! J
