Which surgery to get..?
Hey everybody.
Im Brittany. 20 years old and am going to have WLS. Problem is i don't know which to get. Originally I was going to go for the Lap Band but i hear good and a lot of bad things from it. Im 5'9 and 270. And I have no health problems. Any thoughts and opinions would be really big help. Thanks! Britt

I was 19 when I had my WLS, I was also going for the RNY untill I came to OH and discovered the DS! I wish you the best of luck on the journey and let me know if you need anything! xoxo
If you want to get somewhere you have to know where you want to go and how to get there. Then never, never, never, give up!

Hi Brittany,
I'm Brittnie as well lol (I like your name haha)....Anyways, I was 21 when I had the realize band surgery (same thing as lap band just a different company makes the band). I love my band and have had no issues with it. I'm 5'6 and weighted 264 when I had my surgery. Its really up to you to do research and see which one will fit you and your lifestyle the best. I chose the band because I was not ok with someone cutting and rearranging my anatomy. There is a ton of info out there so just keep looking and this site has a lot of awesome information on it. good luck.

Hi Brittany
I got a lapband 3/24/09 and 3 months later developed really bad reflux and chest pains and was miserable after months and months of testing I needed to have the band out. I revised to the vsg 3 weeks ago. So far I'm very happy with it and the more I do I wish I just went this route originally. I know lots of people happy with the band but also a lot of people who have problems. So far I haven't found people unhappy with vsg though I'm sure they exist. Good luck!

I had my RNY and am perfectly happy despite a minor complication that I had surgery for this week. I'd do it all over again.
Honestly, regardless of what surgery you decide on the biggest thing is just making the commitment to it. You can lose weight with any WLS if you stick to the diet, exercise, take your vitamins and see your doctor regularly.
You will hear horror stories about every procedure and stories that one procedure is better or worse than another....don't buy it. As you can see, we have multiple people on this board with different surgeries who all have lost weight, maintained, struggled, gained back, etc. It's not so much the type of tool, it's how you choose to use it now and long term. I won't lie, it's tough but if you don't give yourself the option of failure than it will work for you.
Best of luck to you, it's a hard decision but you'll figure out which is right for you!
