I'm in the hospital
Hey everyone...
I'm sitting here typing this to you from a hospital bed. I came in to the ER weds night for severe stomach pain...in the middle of a blizzard non-the-less. The pain was so bad I couldn't stand up straight.
They admitted me and I've been here since. To make a long story short, they did a few x-rays and my colon is blocked. Illius (sp?) is what they call it. My husband said it's basically when your stomach falls asleep and poo doesn't travel through like it should. Understand, this is not the hospital I had my RNY in, that's about 1 1/2 hours away. I have a surgeon in the hospital I am in now *****moved my gallbladder in 2007, he seems to think that the illius isn't the only problem...he thinks I have an internal hernia. Now he just has to talk to my RNY surgeon and see what the next step should be. My pain is 100% better so that's a positive but they still have me on an IV and mega, super laxatives..and a clear liquid diet...this is all very familiar... ;-)
This is horrible timing for this to be happening. My son's birthday is tomorrow and I'm suppose to have people over (not hugely concerned because my mom is good at taking over things like that) and my husband and I are suppose to leave on our cruise to the Bahamas on the 23rd. I'm seriously going to cry....and I rarely cry. I just really really want to go home. Thankfully my husband works here and is just downstairs if I need him, he's been great playing Mr. Mom the past day.
Sorry to sound like I'm having a pity party but I just needed to do some serious venting. Please think of me and say a few prayers that I'll be able to get out of here, have my son's party and go on my trip!

Thank you guys so much. I really appreciate all your kind words and thoughts because I'm going nuts in here!
I have no idea when my dr. will be here to see me. Since he's a surgeon and this hospital is relatively small, he doesn't have a set time to do rounds and I think I'm his only admitted patient. Yesterday he didn't get here until 4:45pm. I'm really hoping he lets me leave today because I don't think there is much more they can do for me here.

Update!!
My not RNY surgeon talked to my RNY surgeon and I have an appointment to see RNY surgeon Monday morning. RNY surgeon agrees with my other surgeon that it's probably an internal hernia and the illius was a result of the colon pushing through the hernia. They will probably do a laproscopy on me to see if it is indeed a hernia and if so, they can just push back the colon and repair it that way. If there is too much scar tissue they will have to do an open surgery. I know this sounds awful but if they have to do an open surgery, I'm going to have them wait until after my vacation if they can and take a chance that nothing will happen while I'm gone. I know, stupid, but we have been planning this anniversary/late honeymoon trip all year last year.
I'm just hoping and praying that if it's a hernia they can fix it laproscopically early next week so I will have a week and half to recover.
Thanks you guys for being so supportive ..... I REALLY need it!
