STRUGGLING!!! help,please!
ok. So i'm almost a year out. I've lost 100lbs (give or take) but these holidays are taking a HUGE toll on me. I've gained about 7lbs in the last month or so and i'm freaking, plus my stomach is always hungry feeling.
I knew this day would come...but did it have to happen around the holidays (haha)....
How does everyone survive the holidays without losing the battle? Any tips for getting my stomach pouch back on track?
Would doing the diet we start right after our surgery help get my pouch back on track? I really don't want this to get out of control, i've come to far to regress!!!!
HeEeEEeEllllPppp!!!
My holiday plan:
- dump horribly on sugar, don't really like candy, so cookies and such are out. fine with me, but I have tweaked a few recipes (pies, cookies, etc.) to make sure they're low sugar and still yummy. If all else fails, make your own. My step-dad is diabetic, so I've had practice. There are tons of good recipes out there....hit google.
- I am in charge of cooking (did thanksgiving) for christmas. Guess what? If the guests don't know it's healthy for them, they don't complain. My pre-dinner hor'deurves (sp?) always include fresh fruit and veggies. Granny smith apple slices with Smuckers SF Caramel sauce....YUM. Roll up some cheese in ham slices. High protein and yummy. I snack a little bit, but I make sure I have healthy options. And it's usually just the one day, so I refuse to feel guilty.
- All other meals around the holidays are planned. Which is odd for me, cause I'm not a huge planner. I allow myself to splurge on the actual days of big meals, but everything else is thought out.
- I also remember to keep protein bars and healthy snacks in my purse when I'm out and about shopping. Keeps the "fast food" at bay. Have your cheeseburger, I'm sticking with my Southbeach Diet bars.
A big key for me has been to make sure to surround myself with healthy options. Chips and dips and that sort of thing aren't allowed in the house until the day before, and the uneaten portions go home with someone else or are thrown away. If it's not there, you can't eat it.
Good Luck. You can do it!!!!

hi girl, we all know how ur feeling. what i do to stay on track on holliday time is i tell to myself im on a diet. i don´t even try desert or anything cuz if i do i know i would be eating sweets and carbs all day long. so i try to stay away of all those things. i only allowed my self to have 1 free day a week when i can have maybe a piece of cake or something like that. next week is gonna be christmas eve, and new year eve. I know is hard but is kinda mental. or i would gain like 10 lbs during the hollidays n thats soo not happening.
it's awful tho. my house is full of cookies, cake, and lots of yummie stuff i don't even want to try, cuz ones i try thos im lost!!!! lol
Other important thing to say is that it doesnt matter that ur honey moon is over. you can keep losing weight. if you keep excercising and eating right. so don´t think that if u are a year out its over. yes is gonna be HARDER!!! but your gonna learn how to control your food urges. this year that is comming is crucial for your long tern successs. you can gain a lot of weight if you stop watching your food intake, cuz after a year of starvation your body is gonna try to gain a bit of the weight back. so be carful and keep going. the journey never stops!
your gonna do awesome
good luck!!!!
hugs!!!!!!

I've been trying to be very conscious of what I've been doing. My problem is that I do so much snacking mindlessly when I'm not hungry. Bad news. Food logging helps me tons.
I've been reading a great book called Shrink Yourself by Roger Gould, MD. I know lots of us don't want to admit emotional baggage associated with eating but I sure have some and this book has helped me put a lot of it in perspective. If you can get a copy, I highly recommend it.
Good luck and just remember that the holiday's only come once a year, it will be over soon!
