they have created a MONSTER...

Frustrated... Thanks for listening!

My History...
I had lapRNY April 2009, and so far everything has been wonderful - - little to none complications, and I have had amazing weight loss results!

The Monster "they" have created...
After my 1st POST-OP consult with my surgeon, he advised me that he was going out of practice and moving across the state to teach medicine. (My thoughts were, hey that's cool go educate others of this fabulous surgery that could help so many.)   Well... NOW being almost 7 months post op and wanting a Bariatric Doctor to have that I can follow up with is turning into a NIGHTMARE.  Somehow my orignal surgeon has lost all of my medical records, the office they were supposed to be transfered to has no indication of EVER having them.  AND the hospital I had my surgery done at is charging me an outrageous fee to get ONLY my surgery records.  Which means, in the midst of trying to find a new doctor to have just incase something may happen, I have no records indicating ANYTHING about my past doctors visits, ect.  Really how can offices who have operated on hundereds and hundereds of patients just "lose" your medical records for over a year...

The outcome...
I have found a Doctor who will take post-op patients... BUT the down side is I have to pay a fee of 1,500.00 because I did not have surgery at their clinic... and the insurance doesn't cover it.  Is it worth it??? I do believe it is on because I feel better knowing I have someone to see if anything were to happen.. but it still SUCKS BIG TIME!!!

Okay, thanks for listening I feel much better just "typing" it out!

It's a little early out to do this, but most people just go to their PCP after awhile. you'll have to be proactive about monitoring your test results, and in some cases you'll have to tell your doctor what to look for. that being said, the major complications are obvious to any doctor, not just a bariatric surgeon. other people will probably disagree, but I don't think it's worth $1500 to have a bariatric surgeon read a blood panel. If you were to have something happen, you could deal with it then. I had a major complication with my surgery, but I was too far from my surgeon for him to do anything but follow up with the hospital's doctors. I certainly paid for the other bariatric surgeon to check me out. My surgeon's a great doctor, but I don't think he helped at all in this situation.

it seems like you could do better then $1500 too, especially here in Texas. My surgeon only charged a $250 program fee...

I don't know how far away you are my Dr. is in Wichata Falls TX and he dosn't charge any fees to take on posties. My friend had her lapRny 5 years ago in Denver CO. and he took her on with no problems and fixed a hernia for her.... Also he's just the greatest guy who ever practiced medicine...at least in my opinion!
