Diagnosed with H1N1--got hit harder than everyone else?
So I tested positive for H1N1 11 days ago and I am still super sick and can't eat a damn thing. My husband and sister got it after me and they were only sick for a few days! Have any of you noticed that it takes longer to recover from the flu or other illnesses? I am the only one I know of that has lost 15 pounds since I got it!
I was diagnosed with it on Nov. 3. Although I wasn't contagious after 5 days of isolation, I still felt awful for another week. My classmates seem to have gotten over it quickly, but I didn't.
Also, my pouch is still being pissy about food.
I'm not sure if this is a result of the RNY. It's my first illness post-surgery, so I just went with it. However, H1N1 is pretty serious, and not everyone recovers at the same rate, regardless of the composition of their digestive tracts.
On the up-side, losing 9lbs in a week was awesome.
Hope you feel better soon!!!

My problem is not exactly being sick longer... but i have noticed that i have gotten sick more often since my surgery...it seems like if anyone i know has something.. within a week- i have it as well :( the last 2 weeks have been crappy with stomach flu and then less than a week later bronchitis and ear infection.... no fun. Anyways i hope you get to feeling better soon and kick that stupid swine flu in the butt!!

If you catch it early enough youcan use tamiflu that helps reduce the severity. I didn't get to get it. Then just over the counter meds for symptoms. I a currently on antibiotics and steroids for bronchitis and asthma caused by the flu.
I am probably deficient in vitamins because I have had so many post op complications I don't eat or drink very much bc it hurts.
im sorry ur not feeling good, drink lots of fuids and rest. Hope ur fine in no time.
After my surgery i haven´t get sick. everyone around me gets sick but not me, i think it has to do with vitamins or so. but i didn´t got really sick before surgery either anyways .
if ur noticing u are getting sick more often than u did before surgery maybe some vitamins are low. but is the time of the year that everyone gets sick so don´t pay to much atention to it.
hope u feel better soon.
hugs.

I actually get sick way less than before...but I also am very OCD about hand washing/sanitizing everything mainly because I don't want my son to get sick and because I have 30+ kids coming into my house daily for music lessons who are germ factories.....lol.
People have been reacting to H1N1 differently. For some it's just a mild cold, for other's they end up hospitalized. It really doesn't have anything to do with our surgery, just our ability to handle sickness. It may hit someone fresh out of surgery harder because our immune system is down but anyone more than a few weeks out is probably no worse/better off than anyone else. One of my adult piano students who is a yoga instructor and in perfect health ended up in the ICU for a week with pulmonary problems as a result of H1N1 while her husband got it and was over it in a few days. It just manifests itself differently in differently people.
Feel better!!
