hey guys. so I'm a little over a month out and have been having a lot of problems with nausea and severely painful gas. it's like one day I'll feel great and the next will be horrible. I need help getting in my protein because I'm not eating nearly enough. So any advice as to what you were able to eat a month out? I'm on soft foods and I'll eat something for a few days then get sick of it. And with the severely painful gas its even harder for me to eat. I have no problem getting in my water, just the food. any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

plus - i haven't been doing protein shakes cuz just the thought of them make me nauseous! i know i should start those again...

Thanks!

I'm having the same problem!  The thought of certain things are making me soooo sick!  If I drink a shake I get really sick---if u know what i mean....And sometimes I have no desire to eat!!!  I know I'm not getting enough protein and I'm worried.  I do'nt kow what the side effects might be!!  I was doing well and then all of a sudden this has been goin on for the pst 5 days!  And there's not many choices out there so I feel really stuck!

Dairy could be a culprit of the painful gas.  I was having issues with lactose foods for about the first 5-6 months after surgery.  It has since gotten better but sometimes I'll still have "attacks" if I have dairy first thing in the morning.

I always recommend Susan Maria Leach's book Before and After or go to her website www.bariatriceating.com for protein shake recipes that are really phenomenal.  I can't hardly stand plain protein drinks but she gives great add in's, if you will, to make them more like a milkshake and less like a protein drink.  Where you are at, the protein drinks are really the easiest way to get your protein, so really try to get them in one way or another.  I still drink them every morning :-)

Good luck!!

I agree with the dairy sentiment. I became lactose intolerant after surgery. I drink profect. It is a little pricey, but easiest for me. They taste "medium good" and are easy to drink, so they're my protein drink of choice.

Hang in there - it will get better.

I don't seem to have a dairy problem..But I usually eat yogurt, string cheese, cottage cheese, sliced peaches in pear juice, chicken, turkey, mashed potatos, cantaloup, honeydew melon, grapes, refried beans with low fat cheese, chef salad with light dressing, hard boiled eggs, any kind of low fat low sodium soup...my fave is the italian wedding soup from campbells.
Hope this helps a little. I just add protein powder to whatever I can. Occasionally I will have a shake...I hate them.
