Mirena IUD
So I'm getting a Mirena IUD placed in a couple days... and I'm just curious how bad does it hurt? I've never been pregnant before so I know it will hurt me more than someone who's had children before. The doctor gave me some sort of "cervical expander" to take for 2 nights before the placement so I'm hoping that'll help. Any info you guys have would be greatly appreciated!! :0)
Hey! I had my Mirena for going on 3 years now and I love it! The whole insertion lasted literally like less than 2 minutes and it was just some cramping during and for a day or two afterwards. I did have a baby but via c-section with very little dialation, so I guess you could say that my cervix never really expanded too much either, so considering that it wasn't bad at all.
Tylenol will help with the cramps but you should only need it for a short time afterwards. Mirena makes life so much easier, you'll love it!

I have the Mirena too, 3 years this month and I love it. About two months after I had it put in I stopped having periods and I have had only minor spotting every 6 months or so for like a day since then. The insertion didn't hurt persay...it was a little uncomfortable though. My doctor told me to take Tylenol before hand and I think it helped. It just felt like some light cramps when they put it in. Im not sure how it will feel for you since you havn't been pregnant...my doc said they don't give Mirenas to you unless you have had at least one child. Maybe that is just the policy where I am at.

Hey girl..
i also have the mirena iud..and i love it..i had it placed right after i delivered my youngest so my cervix was completly dialated...( so i had no pain),,,,but i can tell u that i work in OBGYN and i assist MD with the procedure and for someone who has not had kids..u will have mild to moderate cramping...it varies with ur pain tolerence..but it is soo worht it...just take some tylenol or motrin right before the procedure and u should be just fine...
it sapose to make ur periods lighter or not have any at all..and in my case ( dont wanna scare u just sharing my expirience) it made mine heavier..i dont miss a period and they are REALLY heavy...that the only side effect i had..but i can live with it since my periods were heavy to begin with...
hope this helps...
