I am 5 months out and have lost a total of 40 pounds.  I started otu at 210 so I was a lightweight any ways and they told me the slow weight loss is typical.  But I want to increase it so badly.  Whe I was home this summer the weight came off very eaisly, I was able to eat right and exercise.  Not that I have been back into fall I have been on a plateau and actually gained back 7 pounds.  Its is so hard to eat right and exercise.  My friends eat junk food CONSTANTLY and never work out because were either studying, sleeping or partying.  PLus partying is the main social ordeal and so drinking and late night eating is normal every weekend life.  I just wanted to know if anyone is daeling with this as well, I want to succeed and paid so much money for this surgery and want to get down to 135 befor emy birthday in April.  College is not only hard mentally and physically btu dealing with the weighloss surgery and that just adds to all my troubles.  So anyone else dealign with this or dose anyone else have any pointers, suggestions, really anything helps :)

Thanks, Vic.

being a college student as well i find it hard to get exeercise in. even though i pay for the gym on campus i cant allways get there. so i have learned to sneak in some exercise. the old me would have moved my car serval times in a day lookig for a close parking spot but now i just park my car and walk as much as i can around campus its good exercise and i dont mind it cause i gotta get to class. also with the late nights if your going to be staying up with friends or at a party bring your own snacks. bring some fruite or vegies with you and graze on that or some lunch meat and cheese. just the little things can help. i dont think its so much the fact that your eating late i think its what your eating at night that matters. youguart is allways good to. i eat krogers carbmasters yougart but if im right theres not one in lubbock but find healthier options. b/c in college theres allways going to be a party or a late night cram seshion and you cant avoid not eating. if by drinking u mean alcohol then only drink every now and then instead of every weekend depending on the drink the sugars carb and calories can sabotage your weight loss. just remember why you got this and just tweak things thats what ive had to do. i hoped i helped.

Have you tried explaining to your friends that their eating habits are bad for you?

Bring it up sometime. I know it's hard. College students have a steady diet of beer, pizza, and crap food. I know...I am one! See if your friends will help you out. Ask them not to eat crap food around you. Try to see if they'll help you curb your temptations.

Ask your friends to "get healthy" with you. Life is so much easier with a buddy. Challenge your friends to go with you to the gym. Challenge them to make healthy choices. Not only will you make your life better, but you can help out your friends as well.

Lay off the drinks for a while. I know it's difficult. I very much enjoy my beer. See if you can do a "sober" weekend. Stretch it out into a "sober" month. You can do it. It takes a ton of self-control. It's definitely not as much fun to be the only person not drinking in the room.

Set limits. I "budget" drinks into my day. Typical nights out for me include NO MORE than three beers. Refuse to do the late night "drunken munchies". Have a glass of H20 and go to bed. Trust me, you won't need the food.

Get rid of crap food. Don't buy it, don't have it around. Try to keep as much healthy stuff around you as possible. In my book, cheating every once in a while is okay, but for the most part, stick to your healthy stuff. If all you have to snack on is baby carrots, then that's what you'll snack on.

Above all, remember your good habits and stick to them as much as possible. Every day is not going to be perfect. Realize your mistakes, and try again tomorrow. If you know what mistakes you are making, it's easier to change them.

Remember, you are making a lifestyle change for you. You can do this. It's not easy, and temptation lurks around every corner. Ask your friends to help you with this new phase in your life. The good ones will be more than willing to help.

Good Luck.

When I went into my psych eval the doctor suggested to take a P.E. class like walking or swimming.  That way you are guaranteed to get your excercise and work hard for a grade.  Just a suggestion :)
