Hello! I am 28 yrs old and I have never had a cycle without the help of Birth Control or Provera. The DR can't seem to figure out why except the fact that I am overweight. I have been overweight ever since I was in Jr high. My question, is that once I start losing the weight will my menses start? I know it is kinda a weird question but wanted to see if anyone else has had this happen to them.. Thanks for the support!

Ya know, I had really irregular cycles before going on birth control and even sometimes on birth control I"d still be off whack.  I'm probably not the expert on this because I have a Mirena IUD so I don't really have too many periods but I would imagine that it's very possible to start up having regular cycles after the weight comes off.

Good luck!

hey girl, i cannot speak for all of the girls here, but i believe we all had or have this kinda problems its an issue related with the weight and other things.  right after surgery ur cycles can be a lil messy and then it goes back to normal. u maight still need the treatment after surgery or ur problem may be fixed. but ur not alone.
hugs.

RNY on 02/12/09 with
ask your dr about PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)
my first sign was the complete halt of menses at age 21....took a year and 7 drs later before one even MENTIONED pcos as the culprit!
Later found out it was a HUGE contributor to my sudden weight gain at that time and then a big reason why i couldn't lose it later.

SW-236/GW 125- pre pregnancy weight-133 / current weight- 123!!
Defeated PCOS with the help of my RNY & despite being told I couldnt have kids, i am a proud mommy to Bella Rosa =)

I second the PCOS. Ask your OB/GYN to run a complete hormone panel.

The PCOS sounds about right, you should look into it...I have PCOS also, my RE (Reproduction Endocitnologist) suggest that I get the weight loss surgery so it can fix its self. Insulin Resistance plays a huge role!

first thought also was PCOS. and yes same issues that you are describing happened with me also. a month after surgery though i started and was pretty regular. 9 month after my surgery and my weight had stabilized i started having issues, but went on bc and now i am all good. more than likely you will start to menstruate after surgery. lots of hormones are stored in our fat cells, and when we start loosing weight especially large amounts, these hormones are released
