weight loss and acne
So I've slowly but surely been developing an acne problem as my weight comes off. I've always had pimples here and there but with weight loss it's changed from the occasional white head on my cheek to oily skin with lots of small bumps that are sore and itchy everywhere. My skin looks blotchy and gross. I'm not sure what the cause of this is or if this is common as we loose weight but I am wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and if so what has worked for you. So far I have tried proactive (it helped but it ruined my towels), a regime I found on acne.org (I had an alergic reaction), cetaphyl, spectrogel, tercaceptic solution. I'm getting pretty frustrated here. Any feedback would be appreciated
I'm willing to bet its a result of hormone fluctuations as your body is releasing all of the estrogen stored in your fat cells. I personally haven't had this problem so I don't know what to tell you specific to WLS, but I know that if its really bothering you that badly you can talk to you PCP about medication for it. When I was in high school they put me on an antibiotic I took once a day that cleared my face up in like 2 weeks.
don't worry i maight be ur hormones getting use to the new diet. before surgery i had a lot of pimples. now my face is flawless. the good food intake does wonders on ur skin. drink lots of water. it u keep having this problem for a month or more, get some medical advice u don´t want this problem to get biger than it is maybe is a bacteria or something. which i doubt. good luck!
hugs.

I'm certainly not a doctor, but have had my fair share of acne related skin problems. One of the best things a dermatologist ever did for me was diagnose me with Rosacea and Acne and the bumps, redness and blotchiness could very well be rosacea. Sometimes it can be aggravated merely by eating the wrong foods so a change in your diet since WLS could be doing this (especially with all those extra hormones)
Other than the diet thing(my dermatologist gave me a list of foods to avoid or limit) make sure you use a mild cleanser (the harsh stuff like proactive has the potential to irritate it, although the knock-off brand at your local drug store, Acne-Free, makes a Redness solutions line that I love. It has a little benzoyl peroxide, which is the stuff that destroyed your towels, but not nearly as much). The Acne-Free stuff is about half the price of Proactiv and the redness solutions kind is much easier on my skin than the 'real' Proactiv.
