support
So I am coming into my 4th week of the Kaiser options program hoping to get approval for surgery and I keep sabotaging myself I hate it. The first week I lost 9 lbs and last week I gained 8 , its like whenever I do well I give myself permission to go back to eating crap like a mad women...I just needed to vent I am also going to OA mtgs as a way to cope with my food addiction issues before having the surgery but sometimes it is just hard! Thanks for letting me ramble!
Hello!
I just wanted to say that you aren't alone. I still struggle with this every day even post op, so it's good that you are recognizing this problem now so you will continue to deal with your symptoms even after your surgery.
I liken food addiciton to any other addiction..it's a rush, high that we get from tasting, smelling or even looking at food. No matter what we tell ourselves sometimes, we've already made up our mind to eat. It's scary when I get into what I call "auto-pilot" and pretty much lose control of what I'm doing or shoving in my mouth. Unfortunately, like I said, it doesn't change with surgery but we can take steps to change our behavior. We've been conditioned to like these foods (thanks to the food industry in part) so we have to basically train ourselves to get into the habit of not eating them. It may take awhile but the more we learn to say no, the easier (hopefully, I'm still working on it!) it will get. I've read a lot of great books on the subject of compulsive/binge eating so it might be worth it for you to google the subject and check it out.
Just know that we can overcome this and get it under control. You have a lot of support here and sometimes it helps to come on and vent before the binge...it just might prevent it!
Good luck!

Hey
I know exactly how you are feeling. I too am going through the Kaiser classes and find it hard to stick to the Plan. So what I have been doing is cutting one "bad" thing a wee****il I can get my calories down.
First I cut soda and literally weaned myself off of it until I didn't want or need it anymore, then I worked on sweets, then worked on eating 3 meals with snacks, and then worked on getting healthy meals in and finally my vice is the exercise. I am working hard to get the exercise in but it seems to always get me. I have been exercising but not like I should.
I am sure you are going to go great and kudos on going to OA before hand. Just keep a happy mindset and not beat yourself up... remember no one no matter what they say is perfect. Well talk to you soon...
Oh and where are you located again??
Nathalie :)
