How did you decide??
I am taking a speech class this semester and I have to write an informative speech. My topic of choice.....the most misunderstood thing second to abortion, teenage pregnancy, and other boring stuff....Obesity in America. More specifically....Weight Loss surgery.
So here is what I need. I want to know briefly why YOU decided to have surgery. Your age, start weight/height, date of approval, date of surgery, 3 months post op weight 6 month post op weight, 9 month post op weight, and 12 month post op weight. (if you have made it further, an update of every year there after would be awesome)
If you are more than a year out, and have maintained the weight loss, Id like to know how your diet is...if it differs a lot from "normal" foods, how you feel, and any quality of life that has improved or vise versa.
I really appreciate any help or feedback I get in this. I have already gotten the statistics part of the speech, now I just want to have some ppl to compare, dont worry, anyone's info I use with be "jane #1, #2 etc. I swear I will use no names!!
Please send any responses to my email if you are uncomfortable posting on the board. My email is [email protected]
Thanks guys!!

Hi! LOL at the zen part....I just try to give my honest answers to everyone's questions. I don't think I know anymore than anyone else but sometimes you get a different perspective from a 3rd party's opinion. Thank you though, I really enjoy posting.
Absolutely, let me cut and past the email.
I decided to have surgery because I had been obese my entire life - childhood, adolecent and into adulthood. I was boarderline diabetic, my knees killed me and I was miserable. Most every other aspect of my life was great (husband, son, family, spirituality, etc.) but the one thing that held me back was my weight. I had very low self esteem and self worth. I was 26 when I was approved for surgery in August of 2008 and my surgery date was December 8th, 2008. 3 month out, I was down 65lbs. 6 months out I was down 90lbs and now almost 11 months out I'm down 111lbs exactly at my goal weight of 135. I don't feel like my life and the way I eat is much different than anyone who wants to live a healthy lifestyle should eat. I concentrate on small portions of healthy protein, vegetables, fruits, whole grains and fats. Not everyday is perfect, but I try. I can't "pig out" anymore but really, who should do that? I really do feel like everyone else, for the first time in my life. I still struggle with urges to eat but so do people who haven't had surgery. By far, my RNY was the best decision I've ever made for myself and for my future...because I know now that I will have a future that won't be cut short due to obesity related health problems.
It's kind of short and sweet but if you have any other questions or whatnot, always feel free to message me. I love to connect with people who can understand what I go through each day. Here is a link to my blog if that you can look at. It has my monthly pictures and more ramblings. http://emilylou- secondhandnews.blogspot.com/
