I start my 2 week liquid diet on Thursday and I am nervous about that and the surgery but I am most nervous about gaining that weight that intend to lose back. Now that it is close my family is not so supportive. I am really worried about the whole gaining back thing. Do a lot of people gain it back? Won't the surgery help with the whole mindset about food? I am not a person who lives to eat but I am ALWAYS hungry and NEVER exercise because I am always tired. So I thought this is the best thing for me... I am not changing my mind it just makes me nervous,

I'm going to be honest with you and you may not like what you are going to hear but it's the God's honest truth as far as how my life has been with surgery.

Do a lot of people gain weight back?  Well, some do but do you know why they do?  Because they don't follow the plan, they stray and start snacking, stop exercising and sometimes even forget what they are suppose to do.  Do some people keep the weight off for good, absolutely!  It doesn't mean that you have to be perfect every single day but it does mean being more mindful about what you are doing and putting into your body.  I look at my surgery as my last resort, if I screw this up what do I have left?  Not a whole lot.   For me, my mindset about food has changed but I still get cravings and head hunger.  The difference is this time, I have the tools and the knowledge to know what I need to do and a plan to get back on track if I do mess up.  I do occasionally have treats but it's not every day like it use to be.  Also, I've learned to deal with stress and emotional problems head on instead of numbing them with food.  It's a struggle, that's why you have to take it day by day.   No, you won't be able to eat like you did before but honestly, I wouldn't want to eat the same way I did...it sort of disgusts me how horrible I treated my body for so long.  Look at your surgery as your tool to get you on track to a new, healthy lifestyle.  It's not a short term thing, it's not like we lose weight and then we are done....we have to do this the rest of our lives.  It'll be tough but we can do it!

I'm sorry but you are going to have to start exercising, it's non-negotiable and critical to your long-term success and all around health.  The funny thing is, you say you are always tired but if you exercise you will have lots more energy...it may seem backwards, but it's true.  It will also help with excess skin and really tone up your new body.   I work out pretty hard core now and as a result I've lost 107lbs making my BMI in a normal range and putting me 3lbs to my original goal weight.  Even my surgeon said that I've done so well because of my exercise routine (5-6 days a week, 45-90 mins cardio, 30 mins conditioning/strength plus core work).  I can not stress enough how important this is.  Start small and work your way up...even walking for 10 minutes and then building up to 20, 30 and so on.  Do it for you!!

Everything gets easier and makes more sense as you go along after surgery, just don't sell yourself short of the benefits of exercise.  I wish you the best of luck in your surgery!

I use to love exercise and I can't wait to not hurt anymore and be able to do it! Actually I use to be a personal trainer for Bally's... haha! Kind of crazy how the tables turned.
