I am eagerly trying to prepare for surgery, and was wondering if anyone had book recomendations?  I have looked online at several books and cook books, but wanted to hear from people that have read books they found helpful.

I figured it would be great to have some motiviating books to read while recovering!  Let me know your thoughts...

Susan Maria Leach - Before and After is a good one.  Her website is www.bariatriceating.com  She has great recipes in there also.

I also have/read a few more - Dr. Guide to Weight Loss Surgery,  Eating Well After WLS, etc.  There were more than I checked out from the library but the names escape me at this point because they pretty much all have the same facts and figures.  I liked Susan Maria's because she documented her WLS by timeline so you can see what she was experiencing at different times right after surgery to even a year or more out.

Hope this helps!

Some people laugh when I tell them this for some reason, but I read both of the carnie wilson books (because my library had them), in addition to reading a few scientific journals about the whole thing. The books actually give you an idea of the "craziness" that will go go through your head after surgery, and they're interesting if you don't necessarily want to read really dense stuff and want something that's a little bit more entertaining to read. I ended up buying them actually, so I'd say they're pretty good. Although I've heard she's regained some of the weight...I just said I wouldn't let it happen to me :)

Ooo...I might have to check out the Carnie Wilson books.  It's probably a good thing to read about people who do have struggles, even with WLS because I'm sure we are all going to be faced with that situation (to varying degrees) at some point in our lives.   Thanks for the recommendation!

The best book I have ever read regarding anything WLS was The Real Skinny on Weight Loss Surgery an Indispensable guide to what you can Really Expect!
This is written by Julie M. Janeway, Karen J. Sparks & Randal S. Baker, MD,FACS

This tells you everything that you will/can go through!

Hope it helps
