I have my first appt with my surgeon's nurse!!
I am so excited! I have my appt with the surgeon's nurse soon! I am not too sure what they will be doing, but I'm just glad that I have the appt, and that I'm moving on with this process. I still have to wait at least five months while I continue my weight loss process. But since I got that first approval I feel I can wait with (a little) more patience. It's like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
I also have my appt for Oct 12 for my mental health appt. I'm a little nervous about that one. I don't know what all that entails, but I am excited! I am hoping to have the surgery before my 24th birthday in April. That would be mighty fine! LOL
But I do have a question! After the surgey will I be able to enjoy food again? I know at first it will be hard, but in the long run will I be able to eat things like tacos? That's my favorite!

that's so great to hear! it's hard to take the first few steps, but once you get the ball rolling, nothing can stop you.
as for the food, it all depends. are you looking into lap band or gastric? since i haven't had the surgery yet, i can't give my opinion. what i have heard from other people is that you can enjoy most of the same things in moderation. jus****ch out for things with high fat, carbs & sugar. if you are getting gastric bypass, it will hurt your progress. but there are always substitutes. i have already started stocking my kitchen with fat & sugar free items & i love them.
i think the mental health one is just to make sure that you're not crazy. they don't want anyone to have this surgery who doesn't fully understand what it entails or who want be able to adapt to life after.
if you don't mind me asking, did you meet with a surgeon before or after the pre-op diet? just wondering because i went to a seminar with my surgeon & it just reaffirmed that i wanted to do this. and last month i went to my primary physician to get her on board with what i'm doing. i just wasn't sure what to do since i don't know anyone who has had the surgery. my insurance company says that i need to be on a 6 month diet, but i don't know if i should meet privately with the surgeon to make sure everything goes smoothly with the insurance coverage. basically what i'm wondering is should i do it now or after my monitored diet with my physician?
thanks! and the best of luck with the rest of your appointments!

Thanks for replying! Well my appt next week will be the first time I go in to the surgeon's office. But I dont think I'll be seeing him though, just his nurse. But I did go to his seminar because that was a requirement for him to do my surgery. If you make an appt to see the surgeon before your insurance company says they will pay for the surgery then you have to pay out of pocket for that visit. And also the surgeon can't do anything to change the 6 month diet with your PCP since that is an insurance requirement so you might as well get that started now! My surgeon's office has made it clear that they have nothing to do with that part of it. Its all the insurance company. I would wait to see the surgeon until after you get that first approval from your insurance company. You can meet with your surgeon before you are completed with the 6 month diet. That way you can get everything THEY require out of the way. BUT I would just make sure your insurance company will pay for your surgery first. Just to avoid any unnessesary costs to you.
I am in the 2nd month of my weight loss program so I still have a LONG way to go! But it will be worth the wait I believe. Anyway, I hope I didnt confuse you! If so then you can email me and I will answer any questions you have. Thanks again.....
