any jews out there?
im probably going to cross post this in a few different forums, but do we have any jews on our board?
im 5 weeks out today, but the time the holidays come i will be 2 months out
im jewish and the holidays are coming up and especially in my family its food central, plus all the matzos and wine and challah bread...
any advice on how to make it through, if matzos balls will make me sick? is chicken soup ok because its liquid and solid, what about the mashed sweet potatoes... the holidays food wise, for me, is like thanksgiving but way better. how did you survive your first set of holidays??

I'm not jewish but I made it through Christmas 2 weeks out of surgery and every holiday since by just making sure I either had or brought enough of "my" food to make sure I had something to eat. We always have some sort of meat main dish like turkey so I would have a little of that if it wasn't too dry. It's really trial and error....try a small bite of a matzo (I've never actually eaten one, so I don't really know what's in it) and wait awhile and see how you do. A small amount of sweet potatoes should be fine...you can sweeten them up with some spray butter and a splenda packet if you like them that way.
Just keep in mind you really aren't going to be able to eat much anyway so the idea of all the food of the holidays is overwhelming now but in reality it won't be so bad...after your couple of bites of this or that, you'll probably be full and not care about food the rest of the day. Remember get what your body needs first before you have a bite or two of the things you want.
Good luck!
