I took chapstick and a book. That was about it. Hospital wouldn't let me take my own gas x strips. But they give you gas medicine if you ask for it. To be honest I brought different cute pajamas and stuff cause I didn't want to look a wreck but by the time it was done I was so sore I didn't care. It was more convienent to have the hospital gown seeing as how it was tough to bend over to pull up and down pants lol

I'm not sure if I would do the Gas-X just because you need to get the gas out of your system otherwise you will have horrible bloat/pain.  That was my biggest issue after surgery was that I couldn't get the gas out and it didn't go away for about 5 days post-op.  It felt about as bad as childbirth and that was beyond no picnic.

Maybe this was just my situation but I would give it maybe a day or two after surgery before using the gas pills.
