Weight of extra skin.....

 Hey!

I was just wondering if anyone's surgeon has discussed how much extra skin weighs in relation to what your goal weight is going to be.  Does that make sense?  What I mean is, I'm 11lbs to my goal weight and if I have let's say, 5lbs of extra skin, does that mean I'm technically only 6lbs over?   Someone at my support group said something to that affect and it got me thinking.  I still want to get down to 135, skin or no but if it's true it would defiantly make the uphill battle I'm fighting now with these 11lbs more tolerable plus a different approach of looking at the situation.

Just Curious

Thanks!!

~Emily~

You know, that's an interesting thought! My surgeon never said anything about it, but I wonder about that myself. Hmm...

It would make sense that extra skin would actually account for a bit of the weight we need to lose. I'd be interested in knowing, too.

I've been wondering that same thing! I really have no answers... but im getting close to where I want to be now, and I wonder how much I would weigh if my stomach was SUPER tight lol.

Yeah, question. I saw a bunch of pictures of you and you look AMAZING. So naturally thin. Like if I hadn't have seen them on this site, I wouldn't have known that you were ever overweight.

Do you have a lot of extra skin though?

wow thank you! umm honestly it's not the best...but it could be worse. My stomach has some areas that aren't really that great at all and my arms have little annoying batwings but my legs aren't too bad for some reason! I'm trying to learn how to live with it, and keep saying that i would rather have skin and be thinner than be heavy without it! I wear spanx sometimes so i was probably wearing them in the pics you saw lol. But thank you. I had a lot of weight to lose and had been overweight FOREVER so it might be better if i hadn't been.

I agree, Amanda you look amazing...it truely is one of those situations where if I hadn't seen the before pictures I would have no idea you had a weight problem.  Extra skin or no, you look fantastic!

I hate to be the party pooper here (and I've done this at support group too) But the average person's total body worth of skin weighs about 6-10 lbs TOTAL. So even if you assume that someone having WLS weighs double the average person, that's still only 12-20lbs of skin. I think its reasonable that the extra skin could weigh up to 5lbs but I've heard people say that they're carrying around 20-30+ lbs of extra skin and to me that's just crazy!

And I feel like adding that I think you guys look great! I hope I look that good in the future!
