Anyone have the sleeve done??
Hey everyone!!!
I am having my surgery on Aug 3 which is 5 days away and was just wondering if any of you have had the sleeve? A lot of older people say I am crazy for having the sleeve at such a young age, but I was wondering if someone my age (early to mid 20s) has had it done and how they are doing.
Thanks!!

#1 This is your life....your journey.....and no one can tell you if getting the sleeve is best for you. You and only you can make that decision. Consult your health professionals, and if they feel like it is a good fit for you and you want to do it......end of story. You may find that you have to keep your decision to yourself if others cause you to second guess. If others have no bearing on your feelings or decision, shout it out to the world. But be honest with yourself about which category you fit in. It will make things easier post op.
I'm 25, had VSG back in March. I started at 196, now 148. I love my sleeve!!!!!!! I have my life back. I'm doing awesome.
#2 Be ready to make a complete change: physically, mentally, and emotionally. You have to actively work to get fit, not use food as a coping mechanism, and beat head hunger.
You can do this! Keep us posted.

ME! I was sleeved 3 weeks ago on 07-08-09. I'm 22 years old and I've lost 25 lbs since surgery.
I'm feeling good right now. It took a couple weeks, but I'm now getting to the point where I'm glad I had the surgery. I'm dropping weight, I'm able to eat more types of foods as the days and weeks go on, and I'm fitting into smaller clothes already.
I don't think it's crazy to have the sleeve at a young age. How is it any crazier than having the RNY or the band? The point is, regardless of which surgery chosen, this is something we want to last for the rest of our lives, right? We want to drop the weight, be healthy, do all the things missed out on while carrying the extra weight, and just live life. For me, the sleeve was the best option. It's the lowest maintenance of the surgeries and allows my stomach to function like normal, it just stops me from pigging out and hitting the buffets every week.
Anyway, good luck to you. I hope everything goes well!

Hey, I also had the sleeve about a month ago and I can already say it was the best decision I ever made in my life! I think having WLS and specifically what type of surgery is a personal decision that only you can make for yourself. I'm just curious, do they think your crazy for having the sleeve or do they think you're crazy for having WLS? Either way, I just want to reiterate... make the decision that's right for you, and you can always come here for answers or support. PM me if you have anymore questions.
