Just wondering how or when you all might have drank some alchohol after surgery?  I am only about a month and few weeks out of surgery but friends keep asking if or when I might be able to have a drink.  I know they dont want us to drink because of the calories but what else might happen?  Will it hurt me or hurt the band?

I'm a little over 4 months out and I just had my first drink. All it took was one! I had a good buzz going on lol Umm...I don't suggest drinking for a while, though. I don't know what the doctor would tell you because I didn't bother asking. I was never a drinker pre-RNY.

I've been banded too and my surgeon told me I should wait about 2-3 months.  But then he proceeded to tell me I shouldn't drink at all because they are empty calories with no nutritional benefit.  He was giving me the disapproving look as he was telling me too, I am suprised he didn't put me in time out

He also told me, no beer because of the carbonation and it can cause reflux.

I was a pretty social drinker before WLS and I get a text almost every other day from someone asking me to go out.  Oh well... I will be the DD for now.  :)

ok just remember no carbonation!

i drank about 2 1 /2 months after surgery a nd my buzz lasted about 5 minutes and then i took the biggest poop since i had my sugery lmao. (sorry if tmi). i think cause i was drinking a few sugary girl drinks (i dont dump on sugar) that caused that.
i didnt eat the whole night and so i didnt get sick or anything but was kinda disappointed since everybody else says they get this huge buzz, blahblah. lol

i suggest maybe waiting, but then again im not sure the rules of the 'band'. i had rny.

good luck !

I was bad, I was almost a month out of my surgery (I was one day shy of it) and I was peer pressured into drinking (it was my 25th bday) I drank chardonnay, I dunno someone from my support group said it was ok to drink.  I was fine with it, I got super drunk super fast and it went away pretty quickly and I didn't have a hangover the next day, it was kinda nice.  I know one of the concerns besides empty calories, is trading one addiction for another, but I was never a drinker and don't think I ever will be.
