Pop
Ugh I am having the hardest time giving up pop (or soda to you most probably!). I am 3.5 months post op and I have slowly been letting my love of pop get the best of me. It's usually diet but I still feel guilty about the bubbles and the rumors that it will stretch my pouch. My restriction is just fine though! Thoughts?
I think the rumors that pop ( I do say pop!) stretch your pouch are just that. I don't think it will harm you any to have it, besides the bubbles and gas.
That being said, I was formerly one of the biggest diet pop addicts I've ever met. I could easily drink over 2 liters a day without thinking twice. I was sluggish, tired and of course obese. Since I finally gave up the stuff and started drinking things like water and green tea I've felt so great. I don't really miss it at all, to tell you the truth. I also gave up caffinee in the process and the only bits of that I get are from green tea, which isn't much.
I look at it as it's fine to have the ocassional pop....I don't like to say the word never because it's not realistic. But, there is a fine line between ocassionally and regularly. If you can control that, then I don't see the problem with a diet pop now and again but if you start drinking them every day, then that might be an issue.
Good luck! I know it's hard but you have a lot of support here!

My doctor told me it was totally false that soda stretches your stomach. Find an experiment that proves it and then we are talking. An occasional soda is ok , but drinking 12 cans a day is not. I am 8 days out from surgery and honestly dont even crave it . I will wait maybe 6 months to treat myself to a soda after I loose the core of my weight.
Carbonation does NOT stretch out your pouch. Pure fiction.
Soda (even diet) is HORRIBLE FOR YOU!!! I wouldn't drink it, but then again, I never did.
One of the main problems with diet soda is the "fake" sweetener. Those sweeteners cause you to crave actual sweet treats. Not good for you. Also, the caffiene in soda increases your appetite, even if you shouldn't be hungry (i.e., you're full).
Careful with the snacking.

You must be fron the Midwest! lol I am from Michigan, we call it POP too. I now live in DC, noone knows what I'm talking about when I order (or USE to order) a pop. lol
I am a diet pop ADDICT, but haven't had it since surgery. My doc told me if I absolutely had to have one to make sure it was over ice to make it a little flat. I don't plan on drinking it regularly like I use to, but I will definitely treat myself to one once in awhile.
If the sweeteners are so bad for you, then why are we encouraged to drink Crystal Light, etc...they have artificial sweeteners as well!
