Seriously I need Help...Protien Problems...
I am 22 days Post-op and I hadn't been paying close attention to my protien until Sunday, I drank a WHEY Protien shake and right after felt really sick and in pain, I threw up...So stupid me tried again yesterday...same thing happend....AGAIN tried today thinking maybe it was just a bad 2 days and saaaame thing....
So how in the world do you guys get in enough protien if you can't keep the shakes down? I have no clue and I swear to BOB if I lose my hair I am going to have a nervous break down. (My hair is the only thing I have that I feel 150% confident about) If I lose it or most of it I will just lose myself.
I know that sounds nuts but ANY ANY ANY advice will help. PLEASE.
Thank you!

Hey Thanks for the reply. I was lactos intollerant before when I was younger. I have been doing WHEY Protien with Soy Milk. I can handle like cheese and stuff so I am not sure if thats it. I live on a very small post in Germany so we don't have a HUGE selection. What is the Suppliment you are talking about? Like a pill with Protien or something? I am sooo new lol.
Bobbye
No such thing as a protein pill, unfortunately :( The soy protein is a powder you can get just like the whey protein and use the same way, except it's made with soy instead of whey. Here's some examples from GNC:
http://www.gnc.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=soy%20protein&origkw=soy%20protein&sr=1
Here, it's pretty much sold everywhere right next to the whey.
As for the whey, there's usually two types you can get: a whey protein isolate or a whey protein concentrate/isolate blend. If it doesn't specifically say isolate, then it's almost certainly a blend. The isolate is much more expensive, but it has the impurities removed that bother some people, including most of the lactose, if that is what's bothering you.
Even if it isn't necessarily lactose intolerance, soy protein is usually better tolerated. It's just not recommended as much because whey is more effective.

I'm also having a problem getting my protein in. I've tried multiple protein powders and they are just disgusting.
Mostly, I'm anticipating the point where I can eat regular food. I know that at that time I'll easily get my protein in. Until then, I'm just doing what I can.
One thing I drink is Atkins High Protein Low Carb shakes. They have 15g protein in a shake, 1g carbs, and they taste really really good. The main problem is the cost. But if that's not a big issue for you, you could try something like that.

Hate to start out with the bad news but from what I have seen you will loose your hair even if you are getting your protein in. Of cource the loss is reduced when you get adequite protein. Most people on here seem to have lost hair after 3-4mo. So don't have a mealtdown when it happens. I hear is grows back and some people take pre-natal vitamins to help. Second, when you try something and can not tolerate it don't try it again so soon. Wait a couple weeks before you try it again and yeah the shakes are gross I went through a lot. I tolerate the GNC brand and Unjury (unjury.com). Unjury sells samples but I don't know if they ship abroad. Talk to your dr. They may have samples avalible or know of local sources. When u can do solid foods, cottage cheese is really high in protein (14g per serving) and little fat and carbs. I sweeten it with light jam from Knott's or strawberries and splenda blended together. Good luck!
You should definitely get flavorless protein whey and add it to soups, yogurt, etc like she mentioned above. thats what i did... couldn't taste it at all, and it added about 25 g of protein to dinner alone!
Also, I make some of my protein shakes from carnation instant breakfast (no sugar added kind, but its still 7 g of sugar i believe, in the whole glass) with skim plus milk (or soy, in your case... im not sure how much protein is in certain soy milks, but skimplus has 11g per cup.. love it!) and then i add a scoop of isopure vanilla whey. so all together, if i get that 8 oz down in an hour (which at one month out, i was easily able to do), i have about 40 grams right there and it really doesn't taste bad AT ALL!)
In the beginning though, the first 3 weeks, i'd put 8 oz of milk with 2 scoops of isopure vanilla whey.... horrible. it's 61 grams of protein if i drink all of it in one day but it was an f'ing CHORE! so bad! it makes me nauseous just thinking about milk/protein powder alone!
it is a struggle, i'm only 5 weeks out and every day its a struggle. some days i have 40g, others i can get in 80g of protein.. but i really try. I am also extremely worried about hair loss (my hair is finally long, thick, gorgeous - not to brag), but apparently it's true - hairloss is inevitable!
Also, I take an extra 300 mcg? i believe, of biotin vitamins which should help hairloss.. hopefully. I'm doing a lot of precautionairy things for this hair situation, but honestly who knows.

Another thing; do you have any Kroger stores in your area? They have their own line of yogurt called Carb Master. These cups (6 oz I think) have 12g protein with only 80 calories and 3g carbs and they taste great. Some days I've been tempted to just have about 6 of those which would be 72g protein. lol And they're only 39 cents each.
