Opted for the Lap Band! Need some encouragement...
I'm 2 weeks from the surgery date!!! So nervous. I hope I can lose all the weight I want to and more and in good time.
Anyways, suggestions for the pre op diet are appreciated. I'm eating 2 protein shakes a day, but I'm super hungry right now. I feel making a sandwhich for lunch. :( I'm not craving anything unhealthy, but I am definitely hungry.
What should I eat and how strictly did YOU guys follow the pre op diet???

I didn't look at the preop diet as a choice if I could follow it or not. I followed my doctors orders to a T. If you can not follow your pre-op diet how well will you do at following hte rules of the lap band eat requirments and restrictions?
Not trying to be a downer just being real! I give you all the encouragemnt and good luck!

Frist off congrats on making the choice to have surgery, it will be the best decision you have ever made (at least it has been for me). As far at pre op diet, I was on a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery and it included 3 6oz shakes a day and 3 4oz shakes a day with 1 serving of a veggies (not sure why but they are what saved me during this process. I stuck to that diet like white on rice so to speak because I did not want to do anything to hurt my chance of having surgery on that scheduled day. I'm sure everything will be fine. Btw I had the realize band on march 20th, 2009, almost 4 months out and down 80lbs including 34lbs pre-op. Also if you have questions please feel free to ask me anything
It's really really really important that you follow your diet. The liquid diet causes your liver to shrink and get nice and tight so your surgery can happen laproscopically. Not following your plan may make it hard, or impossible for your surgeon to give you a successful result.
2 Protein shakes? No wonder you are hungry. Pre-op (and still post op) I have been drinking two 17g protein shakes per day, one 42g protein shake, 6oz of non-chunky soup with water added, one or two sugar free jello cups, sugar free pudding cup, and lots and lots and lots of water. I split all of this throughout the day so I am eating something about every 2 hours or so.
I was pretty hungry pre surgery, however post surgery this has really sustained me. I have to say it's the creepiest thing to eat Sugar free jello and feel full. I know that in a couple weeks when the swelling goes down that won't be the case anymore, but it gives me a nice glimpse of what's to come.
Good Luck on your surgery!!!

haha! Sorry for not being more clear. I am having two protein shakes for breakfast and lunch and then a really light dinner. Like last night I had steak with salad. I'm just wondering what kinds of actual foods are ok to eat before the surgery. My doctor told me, but I'm so ADD. Are there any websites that you guys would reccomend so I could do some more research and be right on track?
My plan for the next two weeks is:
Breakfast: Protein
Snack: Jello/popsicles
Lunch: Protein
Snack: Some veggies/Jello/ or popsicles
Dinner: Something healthy and small
Also -- I'm planning on eating a big ass burger somewhere just because I'm going to have to cut bread out completely. How bad of an idea do you think this is?? lol
Thank you guys so much for all the help! Love ya!

I would really check with your surgeon on what you should be eating. I was told that I HAD to be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery and was only allowed 1 cup of veggies a day. The rest was shakes, and broth and that was about it. Like someone mentioned, this shrinks your liver which makes surgery a lot easier. As for eating a burger with in the last 2 weeks before your surgery I would say that is a bad idea, but I'm goin by what my surgeons rules were and every surgeon is different. If your surgeon has a website he might have his pre-op diet posted on there.
Sending good Vibes and lots of encouragement. I personally had no pre-op diet, but it is good practice to follow what your surgeon is telling you to do. it gets you into the mindset of sticky to the rules post op.
The one thing that I thought I understood, but still have issues with is the rate at which you lose weight. I weigh myself once a week only try not to get stuck in the number. The weight comes off much slower than any of the other surgeries. Just stick to your plan and you will consistently drop the weight.
I am 2 months out and down 25ish lbs. so I'll take that.
