Plateau already?

So I'm 3 weeks out and I have already hit a plateau!  I am so bummed, I've been working out like crazy, following the diet and I'm just not losing weight.  I've lost 23lbs since surgery which I thought was great but now I am stuck and don't know what to do :( Did this happen to anyone else this early on?  What should I do?!

If you're following the diet, then you're almost guaranteed to start losing weight again, especially so early out. You're body is just readjusting - it thinks you're dying of starvation. Just keep doing what you're doing and you'll very likely start losing weight in a week or two.

I think this happens with everyone...or, at least, most people. It's something to do with your body thinking that it's starving so it retains all the fat that it has for a little while but once it catches up and realizes that it isn't actually starving then you can go back to losing. I probably just described it like a child, but it makes sense to me and hopefully it will for you too. I'm 6 weeks out and for weeks 2-4 I really didn't lose anything but the past week or so it has picked back up and I've been losing again.  You should just stick with what you're doing and you will be fine :) 23 pounds in 3 weeks, that's amazing!

RNY on 06/16/09 with
I feel you but be happy with what you've done. I had my RNY 6/16/09. Gained and lost nearly 30lbs of water weight in the hospital. I was down 15lbs (from my surgery day) 2 weeks post surgery. At week 3 1/2 I am up 3lbs from where I was a week and a half ago. So essentailly I am 3 1/2 weeks out with 11lbs lost. Which I think totally sucks and I am working out too.

Honey i'm in the same boat!!! It's so frustrating because we get so excited to see the huge loss and then all of a sudden it stops completely. I stalled at three weeks out and now two weeks later I'm still in the same stall and I had the exact same loss as you 23lbs. I try not to stress it because everyone says it's normal but it's so hard I'm such a drama queen that I freak out and think that I'm the only person that this surgery is not going to work on, but I'll just wait it out.

Thanks for all the replies guys!!  That makes me feel a lot better!  So I guess I will just keep doing what I'm doing and wait for this plateau to pass.  Everything you said made sense, I was just too busy freaking out to realize that lol  THANKS! :)

The SAME thing happened to me at the 3wk mark. I was super panicked and thought I was defeating the surgery somehow. Come to find out not only was my body adjusting but I was around that time of the month and was retaining water. Once that passed losing came back! Best of luck :)

A plateau is when you do not lose pounds or inches for 6 weeks or longer...
What you are experiencing is a normal part of weightloss... you will not lose every week, you may not even lose a few weeks in a row, sometimes you will lose inches and not pounds... all normal. What do you need to do? Be patient and focus on whats important - your nutrition, exercise, vits/suppse and changing bad habits!
