I have had alcohol and many others on the board have too. I usually have a glass of wine or a very flat Mike's light hard lemonade or a vodka/cranberry. I haven't had a problem other than a quick buzz.
My dr.'s opinion is about like any other doctor's would be....it's best to avoid alcohol health-wise but a drin****asionally is fine, just stay away from high sugar drinks.
I figure I got my surgery so I could live a normal life around food and drinks. As long as I don't go overboard or have a drink every single day, I'm comfortable with my choice to drink every now and then.

F! i deleted the message on accident, and now i kinda forget what i wrote...
My doctor told me 6 months post-op I can have alcohol again.
Also, he told me to be cautious of driving after drinking post-op, because although you can feel drunker quicker, and sober quicker... your BAC doesn't necessarily go down at the same pace.

WOOOOO BOOZE!!!
Seriously, my surgeon had no problem with alcohol as soon as I got on to solid foods and was tolerating those well. I was, however, warned about the "cheap drunk" factor and not drinking and driving due to elevated BAC. Also, the empty calories, but I allow for them when I want to drink. In addition, I've heard lots of scary things about transfer addictions, though I wasn't a food addict before surgery, it's still a concern.
For instance, tonight is $1.50 bottles at "my" bar. I'll probably go up there tonight, have a few MGD 64s, and spend around $10. I pour the beer into a glass and stir the carbonation out with a straw. Works for me.
Just don't choose anything too sugary to drink, and it should be fine.
Good Luck!!
