Bariatric Advantage & Birth Control

Hey guyyysss

So, I started my liquid diet yesterday. This bariatric advantage stuff is NOT tasty in any way, but, ya gotta do what ya gotta do.  Anyone have any flavor suggestions or mixing suggestions?  As of right now, I'm doing it by the label, with a little bit of ice.. and it's ya know, whatevs.

Also, I understand that after surgery birth control pills are not an option, but what have you guys tried?  I've heard mention of the nuva ring, but I'm not really sure how it works, and how affective it is.

Am getting so nervous! It seems like July 6th is so close!

I had surgery 1 week and 2 days ago and I have been still taking my birht control pills. They are small and they don't bother your stomach...ask about the pill again becuase you should be able to take it.

And be careful about protein drinks now, if you don't like them now you will almost for sure not like them after surgery...be careful!

I'm a year out and still on the pill, my obgyn said it would still be effective and I have not had any problems, I just had to get my dose upper due to the extra estrogen being released from my fat cells.

I just had my surgery a week ago. Yeah the pre and post-op diets are not great. Another Oh member told me about this website that has good recipes: http://www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/   Please be careful about the hormone birth control. My dr. said no hormones for 30 (or 90 I don’t remember) days pre and post op because it could effect the surgery in some way. Better safe than sorry. The nuva ring is a flexible ring that fits similarly to a diaphragm and releases hormones in your vagina. It wouldn’t work for me because it would slip. And it is a hormonal form of birth control which may not be best. You can do the patch, the shot or implants after the surgery if you need hormones. I gained a lot of weight on hormones though. My dr. said that birth control pills are not as effective post surgery and because we are all so different after surgery there is no standard doses to counter effect the pouch. An IUD is a good option if you want to set it and forget it. It’s an implant that the doctor puts in without anesthesia which prevents pregnancy until removed. You can keep it in up to 10 years I think. I want to have a baby ASAP so I am using condoms because I don’t want to have to wait to see an OB-GYN after my 18 months. I have tried many brands of condoms but I like “Beyond 7" the best. I think other condoms are using the same materials now. They are really thin and strong and it feels like you are not using anything at all. Plus easier clean up and my man lasts about a minute longer with condoms.   Well good luck on your surgery. July is really close. =)

I took oral birth control and was fine. My surgeon reccomends with any birth control to use a back up method for the first year post-op.

Question 1 first: Birth Control.  The main reason for being off birth control is actually because it can stop you from clotting.  Hormones of course are another issue but mostly the clotting issue.

Question 2: Protein.  I am a few weeks out and I have been swearing by Carnation Instant Breakfast No Sugar Added Pre-Made.  I also add some unflavored unjury to it for extra protein.

With the packet CIB you can throw in a little ice and put it in the Magic Bullet and add some fruit and blend it all up.

Give it a shot...

I had the Mirena IUD placed a month or so before surgery. It lasts 5years, and so far im happy with it.

If you want to get somewhere you have to know where you want to go and how to get there. Then never, never, never, give up!

I hadn't heard that you aren't supposed to take BC when you have surgery. I've been on the pill for years and I had my preop visit with my Dr. last week (surgery date is the 30th) and he didn't say anything about having to go off the pill. In fact, he emphasized the point of using birth control because its really important not to get pregnant for at least the first 18 months.  Also, I was wondering... do they let you use Mirena even if you haven't already had children.

My surgery is scheduled for the 6 of july too!!!. I spoke to my OBGYN and Im planning on getting a Mirena IUD in place. Although they wouldn't give you one if you have not had any kids. I have one and definitely want more kids later. Good Luck on your surgery. I can't wait for the date to get here.
My big day is july 6th, 2009, finally!!!
