Am I taking in too much?
OK so I'm trying to follow the dietary guidelines and one thing is to have 8 oz protein shake like 3 times a day. I am only 4 days post opp and I drink it very slowly but I feel like 8 oz's is too much in one sitting. I'm also on those tre pure meals that I'm supposto have like 1/4 of the container 3 times a day. I feel like I'm eating all the time if I follow those guidelines and eating all the time was how I got to be the way I am now. I hate being the way I am so much and I want to be successful because I cannot live like this anymore! I'm still in a bit of pain for the surgery so I'm having a hard time deciphering between pain from the surgery, hunger, and fullness. Any advice on any of these issues would be welcomed.
Thanks
Thanks
sounds like your surgeon requires LOTS of protein...as he should!! you are definitely not doing too much...you are doing great. i dont think any surgeon expects you to be able to get all of that in for a quite sometime...but better to set a high goal then a low goal, ya know?!
I understand you're thinking that eating too much is what got u into this position in the first place, but just focus on the fact that you are actually giving your body what it needs this time around!!!
p.s. i am JUST NOW learning to understand my pouch in regards to hunger and being full. I can count the times ive felt "hungry" on one hand to this day!!
just follow your guidelines and you will do just fine.
As with all things worth suffering through, this process does get a bit tougher before it gets easier....but honey it is WELL WORTH IT!!!
you've made a great decision in being active on this website...you can never have too much support in my opinion!
good luck =)

I still feel like I'm eating all the time, and I'm almost 6 months out.
Don't worry, this is perfectly normal. That early out, it takes FOREVER to get anything down. Just take it slow, and you'll be back to semi-normal before you know it.
Also, I still have to force myself to eat. Everyday. I'm very rarely "hungry". Now I just keep an eye on my clock and remind myself that the body needs fed every 4-6 hours. I think I almost have myself trained to be "hungry" every 4-6 hours....it's wierd.
You'll be fine!!!

Thanks for the support, I am so glad for this website! One thing that I hear from people is that they have to force themselves to eat. I'm a little frustrated because I have to force myself not to eat and am fighting the urge to always have something in my mouthy weather it be a sugar free Popsicle or Crystal light. I'm super worried that I am going to screw this up in the long run. I know I have to stay positive and take things one day at a time but I'm worried!
I'm right here with you. I had my surgery 6/16/09 (about a week ago) and I am having a hard time consuming 1-2oz. at a time. My doctor recommended 100g of protein a day and I am sick of it. When I have had trouble getting it down I use a shot glass and take a shot every 15min. Also, If you have a quality low carb, low fat protein you are only getting 400 calories a day from 100 grams of protein. I gained 26.5lbs in the hospital from all the fluids but I have lost about 5lbs a day since leaving. I am trying really hard to get the 100g but I am averaging 80g which isn't bad.
