you have a good list going. The first few days you are going to be on clear liquids and most likely won't be able to get your protein in, don't worry about i****er, crystal light, coffee and tea (without creamer), juice and broths all fall into clear liquids. After clear liquids you will go to full liquids which is anything that is liquid at room temp. Then you can start adding in the tomato soup, and whey protein shakes. You can also do yogurt (remove the chunks of fruit), sugar free fudgie bars, cream soups (remove the chunks) no sugar sherbet or ice cream if you can find it. At this stage you can also have milk and carnation instant breakfast. Just make sure you watch your sugar on everything, different surgeons have different limits on what they want you to have for each meal. Remember not to go crazy and buy a ton of stuff. A little bit goes a long way because you are able to eat so little in the beginning.
Here is a copy of what our surgeon gave us, it's just a guide and I can tell you that the length of the stages vary a ton between surgeons. let me know if you have any other questions, good luck to you!

While I had the VSG I'm on the same diet as my surgeons bypass patients and I'm on clear liquids for a week, that is ONLY broth (not beef), jello, herbal tea and water. I was told no caffeine until they say other wise because its very agitating to your new staple lines and stomach. After a week at our 1 week post up they introduce soft proteins which is turkey, fish, chicken, cottage cheese, less than 2% cheese, tofu, and eggs. That's for at least a month then the create a new diet. Day of surgery they only gave me ice chips and some water (which was fine because there is no desire to eat) and then day 2 of surgery (which is today for me) they introduce jello and broth for the rest of the week. The only restriction on the jello is NO RED because they don't want you to confuse anything with blood whether it be vomiting or a bowel movement. Of course every doctor is different but my doctor who is one of the top bariatric surgeons in the country gave me that. I would call your doctor and demand specifications since they are being so vague. Good luck and I hope that helps some!
I agree with Mariana! If they aren't answering you straight up then they don't know!
Clear liquids though are considered any liquid that you can read a magazine through... this is any juice (not orange juice though b/c of the pulp), chicken or vegetable broth (no tomato), jello, popsicles, frozen ice (they make frozen lemon ice, sugar free of course), and water (crystal light). That's it! Isopure makes clear protein drinks that you can also use in this stage.
If it's a "full liquid" diet, then it is considered anything that you don't have to CHEW. So it's basically the above, plus puddings, shakes, ice cream, yogurt, tomato juice, V8.. etc.
You can also check out www.bariatriceating.com, they give you lists about what types of food fall under what categories and give you meal plans for all the post op stages. I would definately clarify with the doctor if it is going to be a "clear liquid" diet or a "full liquid" diet... and then a "soft diet" or "purreed diet".
Good luck, hope that helps!

You are making this WAY too complicated. If your book lists all the foods you CAN NOT eat...then whatever's not on the list should be okay.
Use a little common sense. You're having a RNY so you should already know going in that sugar and fat have a higher chance to cause you problems...stay away from foods high in sugar and fat.
While you're on liquids, that means just that...liquids. Sugar free, fat free is always a good way to go. Because you're having a RNY, I highly suggest stocking up on Poweraide Zero...it's got electrolytes which you'll need and has no calories.
When you move on to solid foods keep all your previous rules in mind (sugar free, fat free), take little bites, chew the living crap out of it, and wait a minute or two between bites.
Follow the rules in your little book...you'll do just fine :-)

THANK YOU. I HAVE SOME IDEAS OF WHAT I CAN HAVE BUT YOU HAVE TO KEEP IN MIND I AM IN GERMANY AND THINGS ARE NOT THE SAME HERE. I LIVE IN A LITTLE TINY PLACE WITH A VERY SMALL ARMY BASE AND THAT IS ALL. MOST THINGS I WILL BE GETTING ARE GERMAN SO THAT IS PROBABLY WHY I AM FREAKING OUT SO MUCH. I DO NOTHING BUT WORRY AND I WOULD RATHER ASK OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND BE SURE THAN NOT. THE THINGS MY BOOK SAYS IS LIKE DONT EAT STEAK,FRIED CHICKEN,HAMBURGERS AND STUFF LIKE THAT AND I AM LIKE WELL NO DUH...BUT ALL MY DR TOLD ME WAS LIQUIDS (CLEAR) AND I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE I DO THIS RIGHT. I STAY WITHIN THE RANGE THAT I AM SUPPOSED TO I REFUSE TO MESS THIS UP. ANYWAYS THAKNS AGAIN FOR ALL THE HELP I THINK I AM SET NOW!
