Hi guys,

I would like to first and foremost, thank all of you for keeping active on this forum. This is my first post, considering most of my questions are answered by everyone else, I haven't had much to say until now :)

I recieved a called a few weeks ago from my surgeon's office (Dr. Abkin in NJ), stating Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan is a real ***** (no wonder, it's the health care used by GM employees - my dad - haha), so I was kind of bummed, ready for the appeal/do whatever else would be needed. We scheduled my surgery anyway, just in case, for June 15.

Well, a few days ago, they called to inform me BC/BS was actually not difficult at all to approve the surgery. I had been so bummed, thinking it would be such a horrible process, but it wasn't. Approved, got my pre-cert number, and I'm still set for June 15. Excittttted!!

So far, a lot of people are shocked I'm getting this surgery. I'm 5'10, pretty tall, so my weight is pretty evenly proportioned. However, I AM 295 lbs. I think my friends and family are just so used to me being "big", and they don't necessarily see me the fatty i see myself.

I've done everything there is to do for years. I am not a very lazy person, and I've played sports for years. My genetics and childhood eating habits just have not been on my side, and I cannot overcome this weight any longer.

Anyway, thats pretty much my story. I have just one main concern, which may seem ridiculous, but the hair loss issue is freaking me out - I'm starting Biotin tomorrow, drinking all my protein i can damnit, and saying a prayer every night this will not happen to me.

I am curious, how many of you HAVEN'T experienced hair loss? thats my best asset!! meep :(

oh!! and as for protein - I've been recommended Isopure, and Pro Performance. Any others??

Well if you think about it this way.... by the time you start losing the hair there's a good chance it may not be your best asset anymore ^_^ You'll have a new one!

Some people lose a lot of hair( enough so that maybe others notice a bit), and many lose enough so that they notice but others in their life don't. There's not a whole lot you can do about it. Get in all your protein each day and take biotin and with luck you will be one of those who won't lose too much. Don't forget you could always get new layered haircuts to increase the look of volume. I've never heard of anyone going bald or anything near it so don't worry TOO much.

Same here surgery is June 15th as well. 6 days away!!!!!! How are you doing nervous, anxious, scared, excited or anything??

If you want to get somewhere you have to know where you want to go and how to get there. Then never, never, never, give up!

ahh what a coincidence!!

I'm doing okay right now. Today i bought all the necessary "food" i'll be needing the first couple weeks, and got all of my meds/vitamins. I kinda had a little anxiety attack in Vitamin Shoppe.... this is all happening so quickly it feels, even though this has been a year + process for me!

I'm not too scared about the actual surgery... more scared to explain to certain people i'm actually going through with it. A little nervousness will come in soon though, i'm sure haha.

How are you doing?? are you on any pre-op diet? I haven't been instructed to do anything besides start Prilosec OTC 10 days before surgery, and obviously fast/drink horrific laxatives the day prior. I'm not really sure why my surgeon doesn't require it, so I'm just curious.

melissa that is so funny reading your post because you remind me a lot of myself because I am too 5'10 and weigh 295, and I have a lot of friends wondering why I am having the surgery, but the odds are against me and I just cant kick this weight for nothing....I wish you the best of luck on your surgery and I am still fighting a battle against bc/bs of tn to get my surgery....I will have been fighting in august for a year now! Well keep me in touch to how your doing babe!
