so i have my last surgeon consult on thursday before we pick a date. ive been in this process for so long i had tons of questions, this site has definitely answered many for me and now as the date is getting closer im drawing a blank!
i know some of the questions i had were...
staples or stitches?
will the fact that my gallbladder is out be a problem?
once they bypass the big part of the stomach and instestine what do they do with the extra pieces? leave them in there? why?
i heard the gas is the worst part, can you take gas x? mylanta? pepto?

i had a ton more but i cant remember, i wasnt sure if any of you pre op or post op remember any vital questions you either wished you asked or were glad you asked?

thanks!

The lack of questions just shows how well you've prepared!

Tip about the gas: keep moving, and GasX makes the strips that you put on your tongue like listerine strips - and they work magic. And the cinamon ones taste awesome, too. :)

I agree with above.

Walk, walk, walk! It might hurt a lil at first cause your sore, but you'll be okay. I used the Gas-X too and it really helped.

I think is great u are doing alist about cuestions to ask ur dr. is very importatn so u can understan everything thàt`s gonna happen with you.
most dr.s do staples. i got neither of them i got mine glued. thanks god!.
the rny leave all the intestine and the old stomach.. like the name say it (bypass it) it depends of what kindda surgery are u getting but most of them leave everything. ask ur surgreon about this so u can understan better this issue. is very importatn that u do.
write down all the cuestions u come up with. it doesn´t matter how sill it sounds. just ASK!!.
good luck

Here's a picture of how the intestines look after RNY. (not sure that's what you're having but due to lack of evidence otherwise...)

You can kinda see the Y part of it If you google it yourself you can see more detailed pics of the process from start to finish as well. They don't take any out, they just cut it once and attach the cut ends other places to put it simply... The lower part of the stomach still produces stomach acid which joins the intestines farther down and helps with digestion so they leave it in and connected at a place farther down in your intestinal tract.

I get to have glue too Mariana! I don't think my surgeon usually gives drains either.

I think I'll ask my surgeon how much intestine he bypasses personally cause I have heard the length can vary a little and though it doesn't matter much I guess it'd be interesting to know anyhow.

I also want to know if he'll let me keep my gallstones after he takes my gallbladder out cause I heard gallstones are pretty, lol

I'm also gonna ask about my birth control and allergy meds etc, will any of it be a problem? Any better alternatives?
