Pre-op testing serves one purpose: to make sure you're healthy for surgery.

My pre-op testing included pretty standard stuff. I had to have an EKG and blood work testing vitamin levels and organ function.

Some docs want to do things like a stress test and upper GI. It does vary by physician and your general health before surgery.

If your iron is too low, they may toss you on something to up your iron (iron pills), and you're most likely going to have to take them post-op, so it's not a huge deal.

Remember, if you have to wait, there's a reason. Your surgery will go much better if you are healthy beforehand. Frustrating, I know, but necessary.

Good luck to you!

My pre-op appointment was very uneventful.  I had my blood work drawn beforehand so they just went over the results with me (which were good).  They again explained the procedure, risks, post-op stuff, etc.  They weighed me and told me not to gain anything before surgery...and that was about it.

Good luck!
