i still can't believe it!!! my pre-op appointment is june 5th and my surgery is june 18th at 10 am!!!!
im so excited!!!!!! i cant wait to begin my new life.

now i have one last issue left. . . .
my job is awesome but they let me know that after im out im not promised my job to be here.
they did say that they will give me 5 days to be out!!! 5 days???? oh my god after open sugery just 5 days!!!!
is this possible??? please all you open RNY tell me is this possible ?????!!!!!?????

im pretty sure that by law they cant let you go for having surgery, that sounds pretty insane. good luck with everything :)

YA WELL thats what i was told im not promised my job unless i only tak 5 days out. 5 days??? after an open surgery is that even possible??

well, that would be against the law...there's a little something called the Medical Leave Act and it extends to you and immediate family members. If im not mistaken you get 90 days give or take....so they would be setting themselves up for nothing good to come from letting you go

Well I live in Alaska, but Im pretty sure this law applies to everyone. The is the Family medical leave act which you apply for and I think its a government thing. So look into that, your job is rediculous.

How physically demanding is your job? If it is a desk job, theres a chance you would be back in 5 days. You probably wouldn't be the happiest camper but we do what we have to do, right? ;) My surgery was lap, so I'm not sure about the open recovery time. I do have a friend that had it open and she was back to work in a week and she is a hair stylist! CONGRATS AND GOOD LUCK!!!!!

like the post said above look into the family medical leave act. this aloud me to take a month off from work. something i needed i work at target and i had lapascopic. it is however you feel if you feel up to it then go back in 5 days. but you could sue. good luck girlie

Hey There Darling. First off Congrats on your Surgery...I would love to stay in touch with you. I too am having an Open RNY! I was told by my doc that I would be in the hosptial for 3-5 nights depending on how it goes. Like everyone above has mentioned if you "qualify" for FMLA then you have up to 12 weeks of Non-Paid Time off!

Ya I would definitely love to stay intouch! And congratulations on your surgery date! I can get on short term disability up to 6 weeks BUt I'm not promised my job to be there when I get back. But my boss said if I took 5 days then I will definitely have my job. Uh I can't lose my job and I can't not have my surgery! This sucks! How are you doing? Getting excited about your date?

Have you worked for you employer for more than a year or 1200 hours? If you qualify for STD then you should almost 100% qualify for FMLA! And that law protects your job. Okay enough on that...sorry I just get so mad b/c all day I hand out these FMLA approvals for my employees. lol

Am I getting excited oOOo goodness like no other! I am so excited! I am getting things ready. Finishing what is on my to-do's list. Why are you getting the OpenRNY.
