a few random questions
glasses- did anyones glasses get too big? i wanted to make an eye appointment but i dont want to waste hundreds of dollars on new frames (my toddler and my frames havent gotten along well so i cant reuse these) if my face will shrink significantly that my glasses will be too big, did anyone go through this?
rings- about how long out until you had to resize your ring(s) (my wedding ring) and did you only have to do it once? i would die if i lost it because it was too big, my late mother in law picked out and designed it for me
shoes- did your feet shrink? how much?
hair- i know a lot of people say they lose their hair... do they lose it everywhere or just their heads?
pills- since they talk about malabsorbtion after wls how did people deal with taking their percription pills, did it effect you more less?
females- your periods... did they change?
getting pregnant- how long after wls do you suggest waiting to get pregnant, if an accident does happen (we were using 2 forms of b/c when i got preg with my son...) how dangerous is it for the baby?
i had more but i forgot... i know these are questions i need to ask the surgeon probably but i feel like thats so far away i might as well ask here see what other people have dealt with, i know everyone is different but im curious as to if any of these things affected anyone.
thanks!
jill
Its never too early to start asking questions, but make sure you follow up with your surgeon on health related issues as well because everyone has different answers on some things.
My glasses feel a little looser, but my frames were touching the sides of my face before surgery and they don't anymore so mine are not too big but you might want to wait.
I have been told to pretty much wait until you're at goal to get your rings resized, I know I've gone down 3 ring sizes already and I may go down 1 more so I'm waiting.
I have gone from an 8-81/2 to a 7 and some 6 1/2s, and I'm pretty sure most people's feet have shrank unless you already have skinny feet. I didn't, mine were very chubby and I've actually noticed that my toes are longer now, so weird.
Not everyone loses hair, it really just depends on your body. I lost about half my hair but I had very thick hair, and I only noticed it on my head.
Any prescriptions that I've taken I have noticed they affect me much sooner. but everyone is different.
My period has not really changed, but I'm on birth control pills.
My surgeon told me not to get pregnant for 18-24 months due to your body not being able to support the baby, I'm sure it is possible but I would wait as long as your surgeon tells you to.
Hope that helps, and always ask what you want, its better to ask that worry about it :)
rings- ALL my rings are too big for me now so I don't even bother to wear them right now because I'm like you, I dont want to lose them but I dont want to get them resized every few months so I'm waiting until I get to goal.
Shoes- all my shoes are starting to get to big for me. They still fit but wont for much longer I'm sure. I can only wear one pair of flip flops from last summer since my fat feet streched them out and now they don't stay on my feet. I normally would wear a size 9-9 1/2 but I bought a size 8 the other day so that was exciting so I'm thinking they might shrink more since I'm still so early out.
Hair- I haven't noticed to much hair loss yet but I'm still early out
Pills- I dont have any medications that I have to worry about this and since I'm a Realize band patient malabsorption should not be an issue for me.
femals- yes my periods have changed, I take birthcontorl and I have been spotting in between my periods which really sucks but I think its starting to go back to its normal pattern, I have just noticed that I have cramps more than before.
pregnant- I suregon said to wait at least a year after surgery to get pregnant. the reason is your body is trying to "lose weight" and if you get pregnant your body tries to hang on to every extra pound to support that baby and so its like a constant battle so your better off to wait until your at least a year out before you get pregnant.
Hope that helps.
shoes: I have noticed that my feet are shrinkiong and i can now wear some 81/2 shoes i normaly wear a size 9-91/2.
pills: I was told to stop taking all my prescreption drugs i was on b/c my dr. said i wouldnt need them anymore. I heard bc pills arnt a good option after surgery do the mal absurption issue.
periods: my periods are preaty much the same.
pregnant: they say wait 12-18 months. something about our bodies are in and out of kiodosies and this could be bad for the baby. since you allready had a baby you might wana try and iud
i hope i helped have a good day.
Glasses - I've heard some people say this happens but I think it depends on how big your face is. My face was always relatively slim, so my glasses basically seem the same.
Rings - Definitely have gotten smaller. Rings I was wearing on my ring finger are now loose on my thumb. I went from a size 9 ring finger to a size 5/6.
Shoes - I only went down a half size. Again, I think it depends on whether your feet are really swollen, mine weren't that much so I went from a 9 to an 8.5, sometimes an 8.
Hair - I lose a bunch in the beginning. Was never noticeable to others, but it seemed like a lot when it was happening to me. I'm convinced daily biotin helped me, no one is sure if it helps but I swear it stopped mine from falling out once I started taking it. Of course, check with your doc before you take anything.
Pills - Haven't noticed any difference. One tylenol still does the job for a headache, etc.
Period - Changed completely, has become regular. Pre-op it was really erratic.
Getting pregnant - Is very dangerous to your health (and can be to the baby's as well) before 1.5 years out. Accidents very rarely happen if you're extra careful (triple up on birth control, e.g., pill +condom + spermicidal lube) at least during the first 1.5 years.
Best of luck as you continue your journey!
