Unsure of what to do
I'm 23 years old, I'm obese and I have PCOS. Currently, I have 100+ to lose. I don't have a lifestyle that allows me to dedicate 24/7 to fitness and nutrition. I have been looking into WLS. I've had friends and family telling me "not to do it" and "you can lose it yourself." I am tired of being overweight. If I didn't have to work 40+ hours a week among other things, I'm sure I would have no problem doing it myself. I have attempted to lose weight on my own and it feels like the weight will never come off. It's so hard and it's tiring being overweight. I don't know what I should do. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
my advice would be to do as much research on the different types or WLS and find the one that would work best for you. Also, please don't take this the wrong way but have any of your family/ friends that are telling you not to get the surgery ever been 100+ lbs over weight? The reason why I ask is because they have NO idea what you are going through and how hard it is to lose it on your own until they have gone through it themselves. If you decide to get the surgery you have to be doing it for YOU and no one else because you are the one that will have to make all the changes in eating habbits and exercise habits and will have to live with it for the rest of your life, no one can do it for you. You best bet would be to find a suregon and go to an informational seminar with who ever you want to take with you and learn as much as you can before you commit to anything. this site is full of information that is very helpful and if you have questions the people on the 20's forum are all wonderful and very helpful so feel free to ask as many questions as you want! Good luck
glad u wanna fix ur health problem.
you have to do a lot of reserch firsth there is a lot of wls options. and u cannot take a decition without knowing what you are getting in too. so be sure you are well informed.
you are very wrong if you think wls is the easy way out and that u don´t have 2 work your ass off to lose the weight and keep it off. `cuz is damn hard!!! and add that the vits and suplements that you have to take. i work 8 hrs a day and work out 1 to 2 hours every day i don´t allowed my self to skip gym is vital. so if u don´t have the time to work tool think it twice before doing it `cuz you have to take care of yourself after surgery to keep healthy so RESERCH, RESERCH AND RESERCH.
i`m sure you are gonna find the time to do eveyrthing you need to stay healthy `cuz it worth it like a 200%
i would do it over and over again!!! and i would encorage anyone who have a weight problem since long time. is a true blessing.
think about that and talk with your family or someone who is close 2 you `cuz you are gonna need all the support that u can get!!.
and try to get as much info of people in this site. there is a lot of valuable histories you can lear so much of all this amazing girls!!!!! so the advantage of that.!
good luck!!! and keep us posted!!!!
hugs

Those are completely normal thoughts. I was scared of having it done but I am so so so happy now that I have done it. I could have never lost this much weight withough WLS. But this is a serious thing and you have to be serious. You have to change your eating habits and what it is you eat and you have to exercise. There are no ifs ands or buts. This is a lifetime change, so like Marianna said, research and figure out which surgery would be the best for you and if you could handle its demands. I work almost 50 hrs a week and go to school at night and work out and still try to have a social life, you can do it, you just have to want it bad enough. Good Luck!
One of the most striking statistics I have read that made me sure surgery was right for me was this : Among morbidly obese patients, there is a less than 2% success weight for even the best medically supervized weight loss programs, while gastric bypass has a long term success rate of 85-90%
This is a for the rest of your life thing, so you have to look at the long term success... If I were to diet and exercise for the rest of my life... I would have a 2% chance of keeping the weight off... If I use surgery as a tool to help guide my there I have 45 times the chance of succeeding... That's a hell of a lot of help! As a person who has tried the dieting thing many many many times (just as you have I'm sure) and gee.. I promise you though I've tried very hard, I haven't made a dent in that statistic.
Good luck with your decision! I'm not trying to say that it's hopeless to diet and exercise, etc. Obviously there are many that have a lot of success in that route, even if they've failed many times, but you have to ask yourself if you personally can do it. It has to be a life change to work in the long term though, remember that. I do suggest weigh****chers if you want to go the dieting route. Make sure you go to meetings though and never ever stop counting points or you'll regret it. :P
