recipe for homemade greek yogurt....
Hey everyone!
I came across a really easy process to turn regular yogurt (any kind, any flavor) into a thick, creamy Greek yogurt. I'm really not sure if this affects the protein count at all but if you don't like the tang of store bought Greek yogurt or the cost of the dang stuff, this is great...I just made some last night with Stoneyfield low fat blueberry.
You will need:
*A small wire strainer (It looks like a wire basket with a handle, you can get them anywhere that sells kitchen stuff: Wal-mart, Target, etc. I found mine at our local grocery store for like $3) or you could use a colander but make sure it's small enough to fit another bowl underneath.
*a larger bowl that will fit the strainer. Make sure strainer does not touch the bottom of the bigger bowl.
* a coffee filter
*yogurt - duh
Place the strainer over a larger bowl. Some of the strainers come with little hooks on the end so it will stay in place. Insert coffee filter into the strainer, much like how you would put it in to make coffee. Scoop the yogurt into the coffee filter. Let sit overnight (no less than 5 hours though) in the fridge until you get a nice collection of watery stuff in the bottom of the bowl. What's remaining in the filter is the Greek yogurt. Very simple, cheap and good!!! I'm going to be making this all the time.
Bon Appetite!
