Hello, Hello,

Vitamins...what kinds do you all take (specific brands please). I've been reading different things in different places and I haven't really been able to find out which ones to take. My NUT has me taking Flinstones mutlivatims twice a day right now but I'd rather be taking something that was designed for an adult and not a child. I'm also taking the Viactiv Calcium (plus vitamin D) twice a day. This question is on my list to ask my surgeon at my PreOp appointment but I would love to go in there with a list of options and get her opinions on them. Also, if you know of any good websites or stores to buy them for cheap, please let me know.

Thanks!!

~H

Daily Schedule

2 Centrum Chewables
3 Vitamin World Chocolate Soft Chew Calcium (w/ D & K)
1 generic (Walgreens) Iron pill
1 dose of sublingual B-12 (Target generic)
1 generic (Walgreens) folic acid

Just make sure you don't take your iron (even in your multi-vitamin) and your calcium together. They counteract one another.

I take Centrum chewables but just accidentally bought some regular ones (we'll see how that goes),  2500mg B-12 (whatever brand I find at the time has worked for me),  Viactive for calcium and D, L-Lysine (I get cold sores, so I try to prevent them with that) and some extra Vit C and biotin for my hair.  I was only told I need the multi and B-12 but I added the others after some on my own research.

I guess I was told that the kind that are specifically made for WLS patients benefits don't out weigh the cost of them...but I'm not sure, I've never taken them.  I just had blood work done and everything was perfect...so far so good with my regimine.

hi H.
is very importatn that u have this conversation with your surgreon or you detitian. `cuz every surgeron put his patients on dif. vits and pills. so u have to be very carful and don´t lisen always to the board. is good that you ask about this and people can tell u their experience but u always have to lisen ur dr. 1th. altho dr. are not always right. so if you thing ur dr. is missing something let him  know.

i`m taking.

this is what my dr. told me 2 do.
multivit .centrum orange chewble
calcium. bariatric advantage.
b12. sublingual ( i dont´rembember the brand) but my surgeron just recomended to change to injections.
* and yes i don´t do iron. `cuz seams my iron level seams fine my dr. didn´t want me to have it. so if this change i will start taking it. but most surgerons will make u take iron. but i think i`m gonna ask 4 it lol.
i also take a Zinc caplet for my hair.

good luck on ur reserch!!!
keep us posted.

2 centrum chewables a day
liquid sublingual b12 - its at wal-mart but i don't remember the brand, one dropper full a day and b12 injections once a month.
and caltrate brand calcium citrate, 3-4 a day
store brand iron

my surgeon told me to take the calcium citrate instead of plain vitamin C b/c the citrate is better for our bones and thats the whole point of taking it is to prevent bone loss.

also like someone else said make sure you take you calcium at least 2 hours apart from every thing else.  and another thing is you are supposed to consume 1500-2000 mgs of calcium citrate a day and your body can only absorb about 500 at a time so you have to take each pill about 2 hours apart too.  yes it sucks but it's for your health in the end.

I'm glad I asked this question because now I have a whole new set of questions for the doctor. I had heard that the calcium citrate was actually better than calcium carbonates but I didn't realize you had to spread them out like that...now I know :)

Thank you all :)

Wow i cant believe that everyone takes centrum chewables? Yuck I cant stomach anything chewable. Just in case you are like me I do

bariatric advantage multivitamin
B1 (generic)
B12 (generic)
biotin for hair (generic)
calcium citrate- Citracal brand makes "petites" and they are easy to swallow
vitamin D with the calcium (generic)  D helps you absorb the calcium

I do the multi, B1 and B12 in the morning and the calcium and D at night. You should def check with your doc since they all have different opinions on what you should take.
I get the bariatric advantage vitamins from the pharmacy at the hospital where I had surgery. I just get a bottle or two when Im there for an update. I just take those since I can swallow them rather then chewing.
