I was reading that post about carbonation and some have said that they drink alcohol????
what do you drink? beer, wine, liquor and soda?
My surgeon said to wait a year before trying any alcohol because of the calories ....
Do you get drunk faster? I only know people in their 50s who have had this surgery and they drink wine on occasion but just some sips here and there.
I miss my wine nights!
How about margeritas?
I dont need to drink but I sure like to!

I have had some wine on occassion...meaning like one glass a month or so.   It will make you tipsy faster, so watch out for that.  I wouldn't suggest margeritas because they have a load of sugar in them.

It probably wouldn't hurt to wait the year like your surgeon said, but you could try a small amount if you wanted to see how it affects you...just like with everything else, people are different.  I know it's hard with summer coming, I'm use to the back yard BBQ's with the cooler full of beer.

Cheers!

I only drink wine, but I'm nervous because I don't want to get my ass kicked by all that sugar. I'm not ready to jump right in yet, but eventually I'll forget and end up with a glass in my hand.

when i went in for my 3 month appointment he said i could have a drink now but in moderation. i have had some wine and on saturday when i was out with one of my friends i had a few sips of her mudslide and an amerota sour. you will get tipsy faster i say if you want one every now in then its fine. if he says wait a year than wait a year. good luck with it.

and for my surprise i ddin´t get any drunker than before.
i do drink beer sometimes  but i never finish a bottle i don´t like it `cuz it makes me feel kinda funy. sodas an alcohol not good idea for me `cuz must of the time i feel a lot of gas and sometimes dump so not good and alchool and sugar very bad idea. lol.
i dump on wine with soda. like a sangria. sometimes when i have more than 2 piña colad. or that kindda coctals.
but I love
cranbery vodka. is a lot of sugar in that juice but i doesn´t make me sick dunno why but most of the time i mix it with diet juice.
and cosmos lol.

i used to love tequila shots but my pouch hurts so bad when i do that. altho i can have tequila mixed with lime juice or something like that.

I had my surgery 11-6-08 and drank for the first time on 12/31/08 for new years.  Not the best example i know, but I was drunk after 2 drinks. All I drink is Goose and Cranberry. I tried Margaritas first time last week and I got drunker than hell but then I looked at the sugar and carbs, OMG i so wouldnt do that. I stick to my goose and cranberry lite. Good luck

My surgeon said it was fine to drink alcohol after I was on solid food and feeling "normal". Though I was warned that I would be a cheap date.

I have issues getting in my calories for the day most of the time, so I don't mind the "empty" calories. Plus, a drink or two gets me pretty buzzed.

You just have to be careful. Drinking too much too quickly could be really bad. Because our bodies metabolize alcohol more quickly, you could inadvertently give yourself alcohol poisoning. Moral of the story: stay away from shots, and sip your drink. I tried my first post-op drinks (wine), at a friend's bar on a slow night. And I had a designated driver (my mom) just in case.

As for types of drinks, I go for low sugar, or else I'm gonna dump, go into carb coma, and fall asleep on my barstool. Chardonnay, bacardi & diet, beer (if your pouch tolerates it, mine doesn't do carbonation). I tend to stay away from anything sweet, and I miss my margaritas.

I'm not condoning alcoholism, but hey, we're young, and sometimes at the end of the week, you just want a good, cold drink. Nothing wrong with that. Is it Thursday yet?

Thanks for all the advice. Im not condoning alcoholism and I even saw that oprah were women with WLS turned to either alcohol or sex for addiction since they kicked their food habit.
yikes! (guess what my husband is hoping happens)
I just have a lot of situations where there is social drinking and Im not trying to laying on the floor drunk, but now that I have a 2 yr old I have more reasons to drink
JUST KIDDING!
:)
Im glad you are all doing your research :) cranberry and goose just so happens to be my fav so guess what Im going to try first?
