Odd shopping problem
Leave it to me to have some sort of weird phobia thing......
So I love the fact I can wear clothes that aren't in the plus size section, that's not the problem what so ever. The problem is when I try to go shopping, I just get overwhelmed and have to leave without even trying so much as a tee shirt on. What the heck is the deal?? Am I so use to such a limited selection that now racks and racks of clothes are too much? I also have no idea what would even look good on me or brave enough to try certain things on. I need to get over this!! I really want a new bathing suit for summer but that prospect is looking bleek as of right now.
Thanks for listening to my weirdness.... :-)

Lol As a guy I face those issues as well. Its weird I used to be a K Mart shopper when it came to my pants. Now its like awesome old navy, aeropostle, jc penny, buckle they all carry my size. I tend to seize up not because I dont want to buy something but because i want to buy it all lol. Its like you said over whelming to have sooooo many options. What i do is pick out my favorite pair and buy those in the size i am wearing and then my second favorite i get in the size below. That way i get to buy a few pairs and dont feel guilty cause they wont fit in a few weeks/months
good luck
good luck
I never liked shopping before I gained weight, and once I was big it was worse.
I went to Kmart and kept trying on clothes that was too big... I went to the mall and felt the same way. Try a single store like Old Navy or at the mall go to one or two stores at a time.
Is this weird? I stare at the underwear section at the store and obsess over what size to buy. I dont want to buy it too big but I dont want it to be too small. Its not like you can try it on!
Every time I go shopping for other things I end up in the underwear section, spend 20 minutes obsessing, then dont buy anything because Im afraid that they wont fit.
Your not the only one with weirdness :)

Emily,
doesn't seem weird to me at all. I have yet to put my foot inside a normal mall store just because I'm afraid of trying it on, I'm afraid they'll all look at me and KNOW I'm too big to be in there--- which is silliness, because I have hand-me-downs from these stores so I know they will fit fine. It's totally a head thing.
I started small, at places like Target and Old Navy where I wouldn't break the bank. and I walked straight to the clearance section and bought stuff I thought was cute if I thought it was small or way to small- without distinguishing really. Then if something really caught my eye from another area I'd try it on or buy it. Having the clearance section was really good because it cut the amount of options down a LOT, made it managable, and saved on the expenses. And by keeping it kinda open, I didn't feel like I was missing out.... if I wanted something outside that area, it was no big deal.
I've also been hitting up stores online, in their clearance sections too. It's not as fun, but I can handle the pace better.
otherwise, bring a shopping buddy? that sometimes works really well

As someone told me lately, everyone deserves the chance to fly!
Believe me I understand how you feel! I went shopping this past weekend with my best friend because I needed support because I still think i'm too big to shop in regular stores and you know what? we're not anymore! I have been wanting a pair of jeans from the buckle for forever and I still hadn't gone in there b/c i thought i was too big and you know what? i'm smaller than their biggest size. i know its a crazy feeling and i get anxious about shopping but i guess what i'm trying to say is go in there and just try a bunch of crap on. my best friend forced me to go into bebe and you know what? that crap fit too. it really helps if you have a shopping buddy that forces you to go into stores you're afraid or anxious to go into. don't worry, we'll work through it!
Instead of just "going shopping" try shopping for specific items. Say to yourself ok today my mission is to find a great pair of jeans. When you go into a store head directly to the jeans section and do not leave until your "mission" is complete. If something in another section catches your eye by all means try it but only if you think you can handle it which you probably will be able to since you have already found the great jeans. Setting goals even when shopping makes things alot easier,
