hi guys
my name is sarah and i am new to this board .
i am 23 years just had my vsg 3 weeks ago , doing great :)
but i was thinking i have been overweight all my life .. i really hope that i wont have excess skin
but i wanted to ask has anyone of you encountered this problem lost so much and had to do the plastic surgey i have about 183 pounds to lose and lost so far 35 pounds
my doctor told me that it depends on the elasticity of the body and since i had this surgey at young age i can escape the excess skin problem
still there are no guarantees

Welcome to the board!
Im 20 years old and have lost a lot of weight and i know that i will
definetely need to get plastic surgery.  I have a lot of excess skin that will have to get removed.  I think that losing so much weight, its inevitable that there will be excess skin.  I knew from the beginning that that it was likely going to be my case.  Even with all the hanging skin, it feels great to be able to life my life and to be able to breathe again.  Hope that helps!

Depending on your insurance etc. If you have medical problems due to excess skin such as rashes or back problems, some procedures may be covered by your insurance, but it would probably be a real fight to get them to actually do it. A friend of mine got hers covered but she needed lawyers and a ton of documentation.

hi sarah,

first off, it's great to welcome another VSG'er! we're few and far between, but proud. I had my surgery not long before you, but it was kinda a revision... long story, so I've lost about 75 lbs so far.

People may disagree with this, but, for all practical purposes, you WILL have excess skin. Especially if you make it all the way to goal. Everyone has it to varying degrees, some people look better naturally- it's genetics. Whether or not you'll have enough skin that you really want PS to be comfortable.... well, I'd say that depends on your tolerance, and the way your skin reacts to the loss.

I can tell you this- I was obese all my life, and I thought my stomach was gonna look WAY worse than it does now. way. I don't think it sags any more than it used to... which seems like that would be impossible considering I went from a size 22 to a 14... but that's my take. My arms however are not rebounding as well. They were always kinda flappy and now I feel like they're really flappy.

What I can say is, while mostly it's a crap shoot- check out the PS forum- a lot of those people put up pictures, and some of them are younger so you can kinda get a general sense from that. and take care of your body well now, it will minimize the excess skin. Most notably, EXERCISE it makes a world of difference on everything and then drink lots of water, I hear that is crucial

welcome to the board again, look forward to hearing from you

let's just hope it wont  be too much

Hey girl - and welcome to the board :)
i had RNY 9 months ago at 21 years old and have lost about 116 lbs so far ( about 25 more to go) and i will for sure be looking into plastics. I dont think i will need the full upper body or my legs done but i will be looking into A Tummy tuck, and an Arm and Breast lift. My arms seem to have taken it the worst and i dont like how they look at all- im finally to the point where i can were cute little summer tops but i hesitate because of my arm skin- yuck! haha. Anyways- everyone is different and will have different results. Congats on your surgery and good luck!

thanks guys

well i'll definitely go check the ps forum .. i just really hoped that i wouldnot have to deal with this issue but it seems inevitable.
it seems from your saying that no one really regrets any excess skin
and Mariana you are right if i ended up with excess skin that means i lost all my excess weight
at least this is the positive side of it
