I've fallen off the wagon
I haven't really been on this board much lately because I've been so busy! I had to go to Miami last week for work and I totally "fell off the wagon" as far as eating well goes...It was so hard because I had one day of notice so I didn't get a chance to get things together. Then we stayed at a hotel that didn't have any sort of kitchen. Usually when my work sends people off for a week or more they put them up in a place that has a small kitchen. I did go to the grocery store the first day and attempted to buy some healthier things that didn't need to be kept cold...I even got a few things that I kept cold by putting it in the ice bucket in the room. Other than that, it was all eating out... ick. I had given up eating out for the past month and a half and I loved eating my own food but I didn't have much of a choice last week! The good thing is that I walked around a bunch so i was getting some exercise in. I checked the scale in my hotel room the first day of my trip and again the morning I left and it hadn't changed, so I'm pretty happy about that (but still not sure how that was possible!)
Anyway, enough of that rambling, I guess my question to you guys is this...is it harder to travel or be away from home Post Op? I know eating out isn't a big deal as long as you make good choices wherever you go...but what about all the other stuff that becomes part of daily life? Protein powders, vitamins, etc? Travel with work (and personal) is probably going to be a bigger part of my life post op, so I'm just trying to get a feel for what the challenges will be.
Thanks for listening to me ramble :)

I guess what I do when I know I will be gone from home for the weekend or however long is to just plan as best as possible. I'm an over packer anyway but I always take the pre-made shakes with me, some string cheese, etc. just so I know I will have a healthy choice if need be. Protein bars might be good too since they don't need to be cold.
I guess just trying to plan ahead for those what if's would be my best advice.
P.S. Just get right back on the wagon!

it's definitely harder for me when I'm not at home. routine= my best friend. And also, being anywhere besides glorious sunny miami makes me usually want to crawl into a warm space and sleep. I went to chicago for the weekend, and not only did I have the constant anxiety that I was not going to be able to find something acceptable to eat, but I also didn't even THINK about exercising, because I hated the idea of going outside. I think you caught the important part though when you talked about anticipating things- when I went back to Louisiana I brought my DDR and Playstation cause I knew I wouldn't want to go outside- so I didn't have an excuse not to exercise at least some. I learned to keep shakes handy cause you never know when you won't have some other type of acceptable food and be soo hungry. I'm sure you will get the hang of it too, it takes a couple of times to work out the kinks ;)
As someone told me lately, everyone deserves the chance to fly!
