Dietary Session!
So, today I went to my group dietary meeting and it was 2 hours long and a complete overdose of information! Tons and tons! Thanks to these forums, a lot of it I already knew, but some was still new to me.
The dietition will see me again on May 5th and if all goes well, she will clear me for surgery. Starting Monday, or perhaps tomorrow, depending on how I feel in the AM, I will have to start eating a sensible diet of 1200-1400 calories and start some sort of exercise routine (not strenuous, necessarily, just something sensible). I also have to keep a log of everything and the amount of protein I eat per day, as well as start taking all the vitamins that I will be taking after surgery.
I also, out of paranoia, decided to call my insurance company. It's very small and private so I got to speak to someone pretty quick and I basically asked her what I needed to do to assure that I was approved and she said that if my doctors cleared me, then they would approve me. Buut.. the lady wasn't the brightest cookie in the jar, so, we'll hope for the best!
I'm going to get some of those Special K Protein water powders because the dietitian mentioned those and I thought they looked neat! Anyone tried them before?

congrats on all the progress. your doctors program sounds very thorough. that's great! and yay about the insurance, what a BIG hoop that is.
the special k things are alright- they taste fine, there's hardly any gritty/protein-ey taste to them, I find, but you have to drink a lot in order to get in much protein... they're only like 6 grams (and I think they have a decent amount of calories, if I remember correctly). I prefer to drink protein bullets (which taste terrible, but are small) and then just mix my water with crystal light if I want a change. everyone is different though. And as far as the taste goes, the special k things were pretty good.

As someone told me lately, everyone deserves the chance to fly!
I looked into them, and you're right, they're about 5 g of protein per serving, but they're those little packets (like the crystal light) that you throw into your water, for only about 30 calories.. which, I imagine adds up! But if it tastes alright, it's better than having to drink milk, because I am not a milk person at all.
