Has anyone done or working up to a 5K?

So I have this crazy idea that I'm going to do a 5K this summer...which is great, but frightening.

I think I'm in pretty good physical condition right now.  I work out 5-6 times a week for about an hour+  at a time.  I do cardio classes (biking, kick boxing, step) plus conditioning classes and weights.

I've started adding in jogging at around 4.8 on the treadmill (still too cold/wet outside) and alternating walking every few minutes.  I did run a full mile today in about 12:30, although I'm not too concerned about the time, just finishing!  But it seems like I'm at capacity doing just the one mile...let alone two more!  Plus, I'm kind of worried that when I can get outside it will be like starting over again.

Any advice or tips from the runners out there??   All help is appreciated!

Thanks!

~Emily~

I'm training for a 15K, right now. I have a knee injury that is holding me back, but hope to get back on track, soon.

My best friend runs marathons and suggested the website below to me. I highly suggest following his training plan. The man is a genius!

Good luck!

I'm doing a 5K at the end of May.  Its the Race for the Cure.  I signed up to do the fun walk/run because, like you, I wasn't worried about the time, just finishing!  My friend is a marathon runner and is setting up a program for me so that I can train a little bit better and be more prepared.  But, until she gets that set up for me, I have just been trying to jog/walk as much as I can and timing myself and how I feel after doing the full 3 miles.  I feel like I have a long way to go before I will ever be able to run the entire thing....but baby steps I guess!  Good luck!!

hi, im working up to a 5k...its such a great goal, it keeps me focused and motivated...keep the eye on the prize haha

ive trained one month already and have another 2/2.5 months to train for it. The upside is that im feeling soo much better, increasing my cardio has given more engery and endophins and have made my workouts more enjoyable...the downside is by the time im ready to run it, it will be the middle of winter :-S

keep updating your progress and keep at it
i feel your pain and successes!!
