last meal
so im sure this has probably been asked before but i didnt see it on here. did any of you have a last meal? i know my dr's mentioned not to do the whole last meal thing but some people ive spoken to were all for it. but being a food addict (maybe its growing up in a jewish family where every holiday, and there are lots, revolve around gorging yourself on food) i hardcore LOVE food, i watch the food network (i call it porn for fat people) so ive noticed myself getting stuff as a "last time" like right now im mowing on a bag of funyuns because "i'll have to give them up forever" haha am i lame? did anyone have a last meal? if so what was it?
i have avoided the junk but i do plan on visiting one of my favorite resturants and having a meal with my sister before surgery. I do not plan on over doing it. I think the problem with having something just because you wont be able to have it after surgery is that you will be eating like that right up into surgery. (ex. today im saying goodbye to chocolate, tomorrow to doritos, next day mcdonalds) and before you know it you have gained weight and cant have your surgery. also its better to wean yourself slowly so its not such a shock. like i have already left soda, juice and junk food, still working on leaving coffee all together. since i did it slowly it wasnt such a big deal.
I wish you much success on your journey!

You simply cannot be beaten if, at the end of the day, some tiny part of you can still whisper: "I will try again tomorrow"
My surgeon told me that he wouldn't perform surgey if I gained any weight at all, so I did not have a last meal per say. I did have a few things through out the week before I started my 2 week pre-op diet that I knew I probably wouldn't really be able to have again (steak, rich dessert, chicago style pizza, etc.) but I didn't go overboard because I didn't want to mess up my surgery.
I say have your Funyuns, enjoy them but keep in mind why you are having surgery and try not to go overboard.
Good luck!

My Dr. never said anything about it, but I knew I shouldnt. I did anyways though. I had a whole week of lasts basically.
Ate regular portions, but I went to a Wendy's for the first time since end of 2006 (07 new years resolution and I stuck with it until last week). Ordered great chinese food, ordered pizza all that stuff.
I still lost 10 pounds from my previous weigh in before surgery though.
And honestly, I wish I ate more before hand. For the past few days (had my rny last tuesday) I seem to think about food constantly now and what I may never have again and what I should have had before like lasagna, chicken salad puffs, maybe some cake, that sort of thing. I know it is sad, and I hope it goes away, but this sort of thing really depresses me. If I didnt have my week of anything I think I would be worse off mentally.

Between my approval and my surgery, I had about six weeks. For the first four weeks, I ate whatever the hell I wanted. I wasn't a food addict before surgery, so I didn't binge on portion size. I simply ate things that were "bad" for me. Pizza, burgers, fried foods, etc. If I wanted pizza and french fries, I ate pizza and french fries. Ice cream for breakfast, I think so. It wasn't constantly like this, but it was close. I just didn'****ch what I ate during that period. I've been basically watching and considering the consequences of what I ate for five years. It was a fun four weeks. And I didn't gain any extra weight. Scary. I figured I wouldn't be able to eat many of these foods after surgery, so I might as well get my fill of them while I could.
Two weeks prior to surgery, I went on my 1400 cal a day diet. With the exception of the sunday before my surgery, I kept to my diet. The Sunday before my surgery (on Monday morning), I ate my "last meal". It was a horseshoe. It's a local favorite where I'm from, and not the most healthy thing in the world. I wanted one, I ate it.
Pre-op I was 276, surgery day, I was 276. My surgeon was cool with that.

Although I did do a lot of eating before my pre-op diet, I never considered any of these meals as "lasts." My nurses and doctors encouraged me to not think of them that way. I kept it in my head that while I wouldn't be able to have it for a long while, I could eat whatever I wanted, just in very modified portions and ingredients.
Obviously I don't do fast food junk like burgers and such, but now that I'm close to a year out, if I want pizza or lassagna or anything like that I can have some. I just need to watch the calories, the protein, and the portion. Oh, and how often I have it.
But otherwise, my world of food is pretty open, aside from what i know my tummy won't tolerate anyway.
