Do you chew all your drugs?

Hey everyone.. I just wanted to know... right out of surgery when you got home did you have to have liquid vitamins, were your crushing everything, or did you take some whole? Also how far out and what do you do now?

Im wondering if it's worthwhile to order liquid vitamins even though I cringe at that thought!

I took and still take Centrum chewable.  They gave me liquid pain med right away and I still take liquid Tylenol for my aches and pains (because i'm old...lol...).

They cleared me for pill swallowing at 2 months but I've only done it once so far...just chicken I guess.

You can do liquid vits but I've asked about 5 different pharmacists and they say there's no real difference in the absorption of chewable vs. liquid....so it's just more of a personal preferance.

Good luck!

Took my heart; froze that. Promised that if I opened it up it would

It's not really possible/realistic to chew ALL medicines. And liquid vitamins are fairly pricey when you can get chewable ones that are just as effective.

I am just over 2 months out.  I have been swallowing my pills since about 3 or 4 weeks out.  But, I did the centrum chewable too when I was still chewing them.  In the beginning, I would swallow my pills with warm water to help kind of 'melt' them down.  But after a few days, it was back to normal!

My doctor told me specifically NOT to use liquid form. This is because most of the liquids they are suspended in contain sugar. So for RNYers, that is a no-no. It may be a small amount or it may be a lot depending on the flavour, but it is an extra step of worry IMHO, and when the doc says no, I would agree with him.

I am exactly 1 week out now. My vitamines are pretty gross tasting except I too have the Centrum multivitamines and they taste pretty good (like the flinstone vits). My calcium tastes chalky but I am hoping to try some of the new Bariatric Advantage calcium things.

After surgery, the only meds that I was taking were the pain meds (in liquid form), and the acid reflux meds (that were in capsules that you opened and put in applesauce, or something like that).

I wasn't actually instructed to take any vitamins until I was a month out of surgery and then except for my flinstones multivimanins and my calcium chews, they were all in capsule forms that didn't need to be broken up or anything like that.

I'm just about a year out now, and it's cacium chews for me!  I've asked but the doctors say that the absorption is better in the chews than in the pill form of these.  So Im just following what they thought would be best.

What do all of you do with prescribed drugs? Like pain meds, i know Vicodin comes in liquid, but what about other required meds? I have anti-depressants and I take them whole! What do you think?
