Letting the cat outta the bag?!

OK so please let me preface this by saying that in NO way am I ashamed that I am having this surgery or will I ever be.

I was talking to my brother the other day and he brought up some good points and I just wanted to see what other's opinions were about it.

I feel like if I chose to let someone know about my surgery it is because I told them not anyone else. ( in my opinion it is not other's right to do so.)  I feel that there are certain people that frankly just don't need to know.  For instance,  those old high school 'friends' that you see at the bar once in a while who suddenly turn into your bff when ever they are drunk and see you out... why bother.
But that got me to thinking what about all my brother's guy friends who have always known me as the little pudgy girl, I don't really want to tell them but what do i say when i start dropping the weight.   (I HAVE NOT HAD SURGERY YET BUT AM HOPING FOR A MAY DATE!!)   I just don't want to have to go through my whole story every time someone brings it up.
Anyone gone through this or thought about it??  I am sure this will be short term as people will start to get used to the idea of me being skinny (GOD that feels good to say finally!!:)

My generic response in those situations has been  "Thanks, I've been working really hard" ....which is the truth.  You don't owe anyone an explaination unless you feel comfortable doing so.

Good luck with the pending surgery date!

You don´t have to tell anybody.! in my experience just tell your family and closest friends before surgery then you can share whith anyone you would feel comfortable with.
some people can give you some bad feed back. and make you feel bad or scared. soooo wht you are doing is great!
and don´t tell your brother`s friends. so you can suprise them with the new sexier you LOL.

I GUESS I HAD IT EASY BECAUSE I WAS OUT ON DISABILITY SO I WASN'T AROUND MY CO WORKERS BEFORE I GOT MY SUREGERY SO IT OVERLAPPED WHILE I GOT THE SURGERY AND HEALED.  SO WHEN I WENT BACK I GRADUALLY AM LOOSING WEIGHT SO PEOPLE WHO ARE NEW DON'T KNOW THE 'FAT' ME AND DON'T ASK.  BUT THE PEOPLE WHO KNEW ME  DO ASK AND THE ONES WHO I THINK ARE WORTHY OF TELLING I TELL BUT THE OTHERS WHO I DON'T CARE TO TELL I DON'T EVEN THINK TWICE AND JUST SMILE AND THANK THEM FOR THE COMPLIMENT AND SAY "YEAH, A LOT OF HARD WORK AND EXCERSICE."  WHICH IS THE TRUTH LOL

I WON'T EVER DENY HAVING THE SURGERY BUT WHY HAVE TO EXPLAIN THE STORY TO EVERY INDIVIDUAL...IT'S SO PERSONAL.  I GOT IT FOR MEDICAL REASON'S NOT FOR VANITY.  WHY WOULD I TELL A COMPLETE STRANGER ABOUT MY LAST PAP SMEAR TOO?  EWWWW HAHAHAA

TO EACH THEIR OWN I SAY

:D

I JUST HAD MY 4 MONTH ANNIVERSARY AT THE END OF MARCH!  NOW I NEED A LIVER BIOPSY....HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM?  THEY FOUND GROWING LESSIONS ON MY LIVER IN A RECENT CT SCAN :(
