Opinions wanted!
Hey everyone!
So I am pretty sure that I have made my choice of surgeries available to me but despite all my research I feel as though I still don't have the full picture. So I wold like to ask everyone what surgery you decided on and why! It doesn't matter if you have had the surgery done yet or not. I just want to know why you think it was the rigth choice for you!
Thanks!

hi girl.. I had the RNY...
I choose it `cuz I know a lot of people who had the surgery and are very happy with the results.
i was thinking about the band. 2 but i was really sure that it was not gonna work for me. `cuz i neede the malabsorsion. that was why. and also `cuz i was not really aware of the othere tipes of surgerys tht were abable. but i would def had the rny again.

Hi,
I had the realize band (lapband) on march 20th. I choose it because I wasn't comfortable knowing that they were going to go in and cut up and reorganize my insides, plus the malabsorption idea worries me too. The benefits to the realize band to me was that you lose slower and in my eyes it might help with the loose skin issue. Also I liked how it can be regulated with fills plus you can completely unfill it if necessary when you go to have children which I want someday so that wasy important to me as well. Good luck!

Chose the RNY because there is a higher success rate, faster weight loss, and more weight loss. Also I really considered the band, but after having learned they only have a lifespan of about 5 to 10 years and will eventually they need to be repaired/replaced that sort of discouraged me.

Initially, I was getting the band..
I didn't want my whole insides cut up and rearranged...
plus I liked the idea of it being 'reversible'
then, i found out..
the only way they can give a fill is by a needle..
i am terribly horrified of needles..
I just could not imagine how big the needle would have to be
to pierce my guttage lol (CRINGE!)
and then i got to really thinking about going through the changes and such a surgery..
just to try and reverse it later...
For myself.. I didn't want that..
So, I ended up choosing RNY..
-well, honestly if my surgeon did the DS, I would have gone with that..-
but anyway.. a Laporascopic RNY was what I ended up with..

I was in the same boat as you trying to figure out what i needed to get done. After much consideration I',m having RNY in May. I need to loose about 160lbs so for me i need something that was more permanent. My Dr. told me that i may need to have a revision after the lap bad to RNY. It came down to cost also. when I thought about it ....it would cost me $8,000 for the band 8,000 to remove it and maybe the cost of a revision. Being I have to pay out of pocket by myself I figured I would do the RNY.
I chose the ds because I didn't think the Rny life was for me..I don't want a blind stomach which cannot be scoped if needed..., I didn't want to dump and or get sick..from eating certain things. I don't eat cake at all but if I wanted to have a slice for my birthday I could...If I had cramps for my monthly I wanted to be able to take pills when necessary and not worry about it bothering me... I didn't want to get a lap band and have to worry about fills and going in and out the doctors office for a fill that most insurances doesn't cover...I didn't want a foreign object in my stomach that could be prone to erosion kinda like leaving a tight rubber band on your wrist too long..I wanted to be able to eat something and not worry about if it will get me sick or if I would have a place to throw up if needed.... I didn't want to eat something with worries of it getting stuck in my esophagus..I wanted a surgery that 20 plus years down the line would not fail me.. I wanted a surgery that I never heard anyone complain about, seek revisions, for and or regretted..(been searching allover and found NO regrets)...I wanted a surgery with the highest success rate and that had the best overall weight loss without weight regain...All in all I wanted to feel like a normal person eat like a normal person and not have to diet for the rest of my life..because diets didn't work then and I don't think it would work now.. Of course I would have to take my vitamins every day as needed but everyone needs daily vitamins..
