Frustrated! Help
Good Morning everyone, I need some suggestions regarding a rather unusual situation. One week post-op was the last time I saw my surgeon for a check up, and here's why. I'm originally from the suburbs of Philly, however, I'm a full-time student in Pittsburgh, about 6 hours away. That being said, I'm covered on my mother's insurance which only covers healthcare providers out in the greater Philly area. So, when I had my RNY it was done over my 3 week holiday break by a local surgeon. She saw me at 1 week to give me the o.k. to return to school, but everytime I have tried to schedule an appointment, I get hell from her scheduling assistant. I have painstakingly explained to her on more than one occasion that I am a full-time student who lives too far away to schedule a same day/week appointment. She does not seem to get this, because everytime I tell her I need at least 2 weeks to plan around class and exams, she gives serious attitude.
However, her attitude isn't my main concern. What I'm concerned about is being given a clean bill of health, and making sure that my labs are OK. In addition to all of this, my health insurance is about to run out becuase I graduate at the end of April and my new job doesn't begin until June.
Any suggestions on what I should do?

Hey, we had our surgery the same day and my doc likes to see me about every 2 months (I saw him in Jan, and then last week). I have not gotten any lab work done yet, he said that 5-6 months out is when it is usually done. This is because it is still 2 early for lab work to show if anything is wrong. I would just call the assistant back and say I need am appt. for May (insert date). I am very lucky, the office manager at my doc is awesome.
Good luck with everything!

I say since your only looking for a clean bill of health go to another doctor...if you want this dotor to have your files then either request your surgeon office send over the papers or go in person to get them...When they find out you want to leave lets see how fast they try to accomodate you..If not then move on all you want is your labs checked and your wl progress maybe another bariactric surgeon won't mind telling you about your labs and progress...in these hard times she better work for your insurance money because if she doesn't some other doc will..
Barix is really great about doing stuff over the phone. Call again and ask if there is a way you can talk to the doc or email her. Also you should get on the phone with one of the nutritionists. They really should be able to get you some contact from a distance. I have a hectic work schedule and travel schedule and I call in there all the time.
